Foods you grew up with...

That you love(d) oh so much, for me, it was macaroni and cheese, pancakes, cornbread, biscuits, corn on the cob, cheese grits, and sweet tea.

I remember every weekend getting out of bed and just saying "pancakes pancakes pancakes pancakes" to my Grandmother, heh.

I grew up with lots of mexican food( I'm not latina).
I grew up in Phoenix and I remember every week my grandmother would fry tacos, and my aunt would come from california to visit and make a huge pot of menudo.
My grandfather made the best rice and beans ever.
Once a month we had huge fish fry's after the men would go fishing. Hmmmm, fish and potato's and onions, and hot water cornbread.

- Warm baguette that you start to eat before leaving the boulangerie
- Sushi made with ham and gruyere because my Japanese Dad could not find sashimi grade fish years ago in Paris
- tea with cucumber sandwiches and scones at boarding school in Scotland
- Whole milk left out in glass bottles on our porch at dawn: the bluetits would peck at the aluminium top and drink it before we did.

Sounds lovely. I have such fond memories of the food I grew up with. My mom was an amazing cook:

Spicy masala omelettes
Chicken Biryani with cucumber raita
Curried spinach with beef
Semiya (dessert made with vermicilli, sugar, milk, and spices)
and always a good cup of strong tea

grapenut pudding (yes with the cereal, weird but very good)
christmas cookies
homemade baked beans (they would always come out black for some reason but they were really good)
strata

For the BBQ lover try Willard's in Chantilly. It's awesome. They cater and are always packed at lunch time during the week.

And in 20 years our kids will answer this question like this

Chicken nuggets
Mac N cheese
Pizza
Happy Meals

Our parents and grand parents had the same amount of time in a day to make those good things, reading this thread gets me motivated to make better food instead of taking the easy way out every so often
