We bought a nicer bounce castle at the beginning of the pandemic for $600. I thought it was a lot of money, but my kids have used it a ton during the last three years, so it’s been a good value.
I think you need to consider how much your kids will really use it before you spend tbe $$. If they are really going to use it for 10years, that about $2k per year which is not a lot to pay if it facilitates an activity they really enjoy (this assumes you have the extra money). If that was the case, we easily spend that much on any one activity each year, so totally would buy it.
But I probably wouldn’t spend it on something I wasn’t sure my kids would really continue with. Like I wouldn’t buy an expensive musical instrument, or build tennis courts, or some other hobby my kids are telling me they are going to do when they are 6 or 8 or some young age where they are still trying things out. If they are 14 or 15 and this supports an interest they have already held for many years, that’s very different.
We would probably still not spend $20k unless it made a material difference in whatever experience it was supporting. And we have a seven figure HHI.
