Vacation rental in sketchy neighborhood

Anonymous
Six months ago, I reserved a place in a city I've been to and am fine with. I'm learning that DH has higher standards and will likely be furious about the surrounding neighborhood - no, i wont say which town in case he's lurking. I've looked within 30 miles for another place, but everything halfway decent is booked. Hotels, too. Do I confess, knowing he'll insist on canceling? Leaning toward this.

This seems more appropriate for the Relationship forum rather than travel.

Is he high maintenance in general?

He can find a place then

Why waste a vacation at a place you described as sketchy?

If he actually fears for your personal safety (even if you think that fear is overblown), it's worth a discussion of how to adapt: Maybe take cab/Uber everywhere, for instance. If he will just be annoyed because he doesn't like staying near poor people or walking by trash, then I think it's not worth discussing.

We won't be there much. This is mostly a museum trip.

I debated where to put it! And sort of, when it comes to some things. I think he might have OCD, honestly. He hates...dirty. which is why I chose this newly renovated place.

Philly? NYC?

Is there anyway to arrive after dark, so he won't see the neighborhood that clearly?

I'm only half joking, but I get what you're dealing with. My H is more paranoid than I am. Years ago we were traveling in Turkey when a terrorist bombing happened in the capital, which was not where we were but I knew he would freak out at the news, so I didn't tell him.

Smaller, which is why I don't want to say where. Think like 50k population.

This seems super weird to me. Are you like an arranged marriage or something? How are you just learning this?

Well...it's more that he's becoming more rigid about certain things.

If it truly is a sketch neighborhood, you will be marked the minute you roll into to town.

Go, and if he wants to find a different place to stay he can take charge of that. Things often open up last minute when there are cancellations. Agree to take cabs or Uber rather than walk if you won't have a car there....gives him less time to notice the neighborhood. Curious which smaller town has enough museum for a whole vacation... crystal bridges?.

Is it dangerous?? That doesn’t sound ideal to me either.
