Per Alan Henney, This appears to have been a rolling gun battle between vehicles with high-power guns. THREE found shot in one auto in 500 blk 11th St SE where one is dead. Extensive crime scene includes 1100 blk Pennsylvania Ave SE and 400/600 blks 11th St SE DC.
No response from Charles Allen or his team yet. They quickly tweeted about a broken water main, but two people are dead and he is silent. |
This is horrifying. That block of 11th is half residential and half commercial, with a popular restaurant/bar (Paraiso) and a dance studio that services like 3-8 year olds. I'm sure the dance studio didn't have classes at the time, but 9pm on a Sunday night means there may still have been people in the bar and of course people in their homes. That's terrifying.
I swear if Charles Allen doesn't actually say/do something indicating he cares AT ALL about this kind of activity and how it impacts his constituents, I'm going to lose it. How does he get away with so much complacency? Why didn't anyone run against him? Sometimes this neighborhood feels like a bunch of well-meaning white people saying "This is fine" while there are literally black people just being murdered around them. Can we not do something about this or are we supposed to just accept it as normal? So fed up. |
Find someone to put forth with a radically different agenda. Do you believe residents truly voted him in fair and square? |
Isn't this on Bowser? |
Absolutely and it is also absolutely on Charles Allen. He hasn’t even addressed it on Twitter. Usually he loves a photo op. He is incredibly soft on crime. |
I can’t agree more. Charles loves to ignore news that doesn’t make him look good. His super soft on crime approach has cost him his career. I didn’t vote for Charles- I wrote something in. Can’t in good conscience elect someone (even if they ran unopposed!) who makes choices because he thinks they’ll further his career. He doesn’t care about his constituents. I’ve tried working with him before and he can’t solve any problem. Given how many people hate him, I wonder if he might resign. |
I'm the PP and the maddening thing to me is that most people I know are totally satisfied with him, and will shrug their shoulders at this as an unfortunate situation that didn't impact them personally. Like until you have a stray bullet coming through our living room or someone you know his hit by this violence (this was a gun fight on a relatively busy corner at 9pm that resulted in two people dying -- if you don't think it's possible for something like this to result in a bystander getting shot, then you don't know much about what it's like to live in a neighborhood with this kind of violence all the time), peopel are content to just tow the activist line on this stuff. Most of my neighbors think he's great. He tells them what they want to hear. |
How is a shooting spree all about bashing a local councilman ? Talk about spin! |
Newbie here, and I’m trying to understand the complaints about Charles Allen. He’s a council member, not the police commissioner or the mayor. Why are people acting like he is solely responsible for this and other incidents of violent crime? |
Because he’s awful and legislated us into this mess.
|
Make some signs and go protest in front of his house. Get the media to show up. Why DC residents never seem to protest for local issues is beyond me. |
We’re still waiting for CM Frumin to address the gun violence in Cleveland Park on 1/23 and the multiple armed car jacking since. |
. He is the face of the crime reform bill- not the part that 90% of people can agree up (updating etc), but the nonsense allowing misdemeanors a jury trial, not making car jacking a separate crime, etc. Please look this up from multiple sources so you can form your opinion. In my opinion, these “extras” were a nonstarter. He has pushed defunding the police, and and has repeatedly been on the side of criminals on every issue. Right now, despite a double homicide rolling gun battle his Twitter is silent on this huge horrific crime. I would suggest contacting him and speaking to his people. They are clowns. We had one of his deputies come and talk to us about major problems we were having (deliberately not sharing because I hear she’s petty and vindictive) and she was totally out of touch, didn’t even introduce herself to us, and generally sat there uselessly while neighbor after neighbor explained how we needed help on this issue. To me, it seems abundantly clear that the only thing Charles is seeking is a national profile for himself. He doesn’t worry or concern himself about the issues really impacting his constituents, but you BETTER BELIEVE he is quick with a photo op and a cute Twitter caption talking about “hands off dc”. And again- two people dead, a rolling gun battle in the streets and Charles is sitting on his hands again. His team’s Twitter is full of tweets talking about how we need to defund the police and push this ridiculous crime bill. He is totally Out of touch and using ward 6 as a platform for himself. |
I’m not giving him another chance at a photo op. |
I’m looking at his Twitter and there is no mention of crime for months, but lots of photos in front of drag story hour.
My guess is he doesn’t mention this horrific crime at all because he knows it makes him look clueless and useless. |
