Would you allow your American teen to drink if you were on vacation where the drinking age is 16 or 18 and your teen is of age. I’m talking about one drink.
Please don’t answer if: You already allow this in the US. You (or partner) are not from the US and you (partner) grew up in a culture where this was fine. Your kid already dabbles in stuff. I’m talking about a pretty straight and narrow kid only. |
| Yes. We did this in Ireland. |
| Of course. |

We have a super rule follower DD. She was 18 when we went to Paris when she was a senior in high school.
We offered her a glass of champagne at dinner and she refused. Didn’t even want a sip. We left it at that and she never seemed interested at other meals. She’s 20 now and I still don’t think she’s had a drink but obviously she’s alway at college so I have no real way to know; though I think she would have said or hinted at it. |

What do you mean by “drink”?
Have a glass of wine with dinner? Yes. Hang out at a bar all night? No. |
| Yes |
Read the last sentence of the first paragraph in the original post. |
| Yes, a glass of wine or a beer with dinner. Not going out drinking. |
| Sure, if they want. |
| Yes. I lived in the UK when I was 18. Drank there. Came back to the US for college and stopped drinking until I was 21. |
| Of course, why not? |
This wasn’t directed at you, though, right? |
| My 16 year old has had sips of my wine and doesn't like it, so she wouldn't want her own glass if we were traveling. But if she did, I would let her have a little. |
| Yes |
? I am an American born and raised. My parents didn’t let me drink as a teen in the US/I didn’t drink as a teen in the US/I won’t allow my children to drink as teens in the US. I was a straight laced kid. This meets OP’s stipulations, although I guess being there for months isn’t quite vacay. I would let my kids drink (one drink) in similar situations based on my personal experience with the same. |
