FCYBL All County Teams

Just wondering how some of these all county selections are made. After my son played Sunday, we stayed to watch a Gainesville vs Vienna game. The basketball community is small and we know the best players, this has peaked my curiosity and I’ve been trying to figure this out.
The Gainesville team had 4 All County Selections and the kid who is clearly their best player wasn’t even on the list. We know the Vienna players and of their three best players, one made the list twice, 2 were left off, and there was a questionable selection to the list.
Does each coach select which players they want from their team, do opposing coaches have a vote, how does this work? Are there any checks and balances that the league incorporates.
The selections from my sons team looked pretty accurate. The kids know who the top players are and I would hate to think, a coach would purposely mess a kid over, for whatever reason, even though sometimes you may hear rumors.

Here is how it works for the all league team selections.

Each coach is allowed to nominate up to 3 players. Some just nominate 1-2 players. They can opt to write a brief description of each player to jog the other coaches' memories, and include the jersey number. Some coaches don't nominate any players at all.

Each coach in the division receives the nomination list and gets X number of votes (6 or so?) for all league players. They can't vote for their own players. The players with the most votes get on the team. The list is in order of votes so the last name on the list got the fewest votes.

The top 5 teams in each division also nominates one player for MVP. Each coach gets to vote on that as well. The four MVP nominees who don't make MVP automatically get spots on the all league teams.

ETA: When you say "one made the list twice", that was probably a coach who nominated a player for MVP and didn't realize that the kid would automatically be all-league, and then nominated the same player for all-league. So the kid was listed twice.

Which division /age are you talking about?

Coaches nominate up to 3 players as well as MVP nomination (if in top 5 of standings at time of nominations), including brief write up for each player on contribution/strengths. Then opposing coaches vote for up to 5 of the slate of nominees (as well as MVP winner). Coaches are NOT allowed to vote for their own players though don’t know how closely the league checks that (would have to be caught manually) and may lead to some shenanigans. But overall it’s opposing coaches recognizing top players without voting for their own.

Sometimes a kid who is "clearly the best player" isn't nominated for other reasons, like he has bad sportsmanship or is a bad teammate or blew off practices or whatever.

It must be 7th grade D1.

Wow, there were like, no teams in that division. How did they have a division with only 6 teams total?

The Gainesville D1 coach is the same guy who coached ths 8th grade D1 team. That guy was.....extra.

They only had 6 teams in the whole division?

Wow, it must have been pretty easy to make the All League team. Good odds.

We aren't in that age group or division but Gainesville had the worst sportsmanship I've seen in all our years in FCYBL. They need to clean up coach and parent behavior as it is trickling down to the kids.

They are AAU teams right down to using the same uniforms. At least other clubs pretend.

In our division, their team had four coaches. Four! And they all kept jumping up and screaming during the games. Blech. Agree that their parents were the least pleasant as well.

What AAU team? Is it called Gainesville AAU?

Gainesville Boys D2 grade 6 had awful parents and coaches. Concur. All the other teams were normal so they really stood out. Maybe since they haven't played in the league for a few years, they don't know they are expected to behave like adults, and not fools at an AAU tourney.

Gainesville 5th grade girls coaches got whistled for four technicals in ONE game and parents have been ejected. These are 10-11 yos. SMH.
