Red Dawn was the best ‘80s movie

I am rewatching it on Prime for like the 76th time.

Best movie of the decade for so many reasons: Cast, geopolitics, anthem, jingoism.

Fight me.

Dukes up.

It is a very good movie and example of the times. But not the "best." That honor is a tough one but goes to The Breakfast Club.

I will grant the BC had a better soundtrack.

But it didn’t have Cuban mercenaries getting blowed up by Sheen and Swayze so I win.

BC has a better soundtrack, to be sure. But it doesn’t have Cuban mercenaries being slaughtered by Swayze and Sheen, so I win.

Loved Red Dawn but, wow, talk about NRA propaganda. The Russians and Cubans using firearms registration forms to find and imprison everyone with guns. Still love it, though.

But best 80s movie? Have to go with The Goonies.

come on...

full metal jacket, Back to the future, die hard, Bueller, The running Man, blade runner, the untouchables, Aliens, airplane, Indiana Jones, risky business, scarface, caddyshack, blues brothers, fast times at ridgemont high, the right stuff, the shining, Predator, terminator...

red dawn would not' even make my top 20... heck if I had to choose one decade to only watch movies fro the rest of my life. it would be the 80's

too many great movies to choose from..

I'm the BC poster. And my very close second was The Goonies, as well. Just the best.

My issue with Red Dawn, which I loved, was that Western Militia prepper type that seems to have set the stage for a lot of the right wing crazies we see now. It glorifies it. When I watched it as a teen, I didn't quite feel that way because, well, cute boys. But, now I feel differently.

This soundtrack too . . . chef's kiss.

I would say Breakfast Club or Predator. The latter being more aligned to your genre. Or maybe even War Games.
