I had a micro weight loss goal set for March 17th, which was the date of a work trip/meeting. An arbitrary date, but I’ve been working hard in anticipation. Today I found out the meeting has been moved up to the 10th, and now I feel conflicted about what to do.
Since I based this goal on the trip (I was going to allow myself a regional dessert treat if I met the goal; it’s all very psychological) so I feel I will be discouraged if I didn’t make the goal by the 10th, but also, now waiting until the 17th feels weird, because I’ll just be at home and this wasn’t my plan. So. Do I make my new goal the 10th and hope I make it! Or keep the 17th and just adjust my mindset? |
Interesting. I would probably change your goal date from the 17th to the 10th because you already have a specific reward you have been working towards. I would adjust the weight loss goal slightly to accommodate the earlier date. |
Wow this is strange and depressing ![]() |
Is it possble to adjust your goal? If you were supposed to lose 5 pounds by March 17 how about 4 pounds by March 10? |
Weight loss goals that involve losing X lbs by x date are insane because you can not control the outcome with 100% certainty. Even if you do all things right you may not hit that target and denying yourself a regional desert because you didn't hit your target is just sad. Food is not a reward or a punishment and food rewards just perpetuate a poor relationship with food and your body.
Instead set goals that you can control. Like I will exercise 4 days a week or I will hit my calorie target 6 days a week or I will get in 8000 steps a day. |
I would also adjust my goal to the 10th proportionally |
This is not helpful. Please go make a post about goal setting that we can all enjoy separate from OPs original question. We don't even know what their goal was. |
Continue on the path you're on. Go on the rescheduled work trip, treat yourself to the dessert, continue to make good diet and exercise choices. Goals are fine, but flexibility and looking at the long term big picture is key. |
I would ger Prozac. |
I would keep eating healthy, not change the goal date or amount, eat the dessert, and also consider therapy for anxiety/rigidity/disordered eating. |
