VA Dems vote no on WOC nominee to state board of education

This is an accomplished woman who would have been an asset to VA's BOE. Idiot Democrats blocked her nomination.

Mr. Youngkin’s nominee is Suparna Dutta, an India-born woman who co-founded the parents group at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. That group accused the high school of abandoning its merit-based admissions standards to reduce the number of Asian-Americans admitted. Ms. Dutta is an engineer and advocate for STEM education. Democrats say she is unqualified to serve on the board because she has no background in education.

What they mean is she dissents from progressive orthodoxy. The vote to kill her nomination came a week after a heated dispute with board member Anne Holton, Sen. Tim Kaine’s wife. Among Ms. Dutta’s “controversial” remarks was her criticism of socialism and defending the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Never mind that Ms. Dutta lived under socialism in India.

OK, does she have a background in education though? They don't "mean" that they are rejecting her because her views don't align.

Here's her biography on the State Board of Education website. I'm not seeing any background in education in it.

Suparna Dutta was appointed to the Board of Education by Governor Glenn Youngkin.

Suparna Dutta is a Technology Architect information technology professional in the telecommunications industry. She also endeavors to bring together parents, educators, students, and community members to advocate for high standards and parental involvement in their children's education. As co-chair of the Diversity Committee at her child's high school, she advocated for expanding access to STEM enrichment programs and improving the pipeline to challenging and rigorous education for more students in Fairfax County Public Schools. She has led the Education Platform at the American Hindu Coalition, supporting common sense education reforms.

She has a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering in India. After working as a Civil Engineer, she arrived in the United States in 1993, earning an MS in Environmental Engineering at the University of Tennessee.

She is the mother of two children who went to Fairfax County Public Schools. She resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and family.

To me having board members that aren’t professional educators is a plus. Educators safe becoming very tribal and I think they need to get checked every now and then. Whether she is the right choice, I can’t say, but a lack of experience in education should not be a disqualifier, IMO.
