Name five delicious and filling lunches for a man on his feet all day. Easy to get (fast food or quick grocery store/gas station run etc). No worry about money or calories.
Now take those and make them healthy. Again no worries about cost. Thanks. |
My surgeon DH takes whatever is leftover from the previous night’s dinner in the frig: stew, lentils and rice, pieces of chicken, pasta, sometimes he’ll combine various things to clean out the random stuff left in the frig.
If nothing is already cooked, I’ll make him a wrap (whole wheat pita, the Syrian kind) with hommus, cheese, veggies |
Instead of a fast food chicken sandwich:
Poach or grill thin chicken breasts early in the week. Put the chicken on a burger bun, or in a pita, or slice it into a tortilla and make a wrap. Bulk it up with lettuce and tomato. And instead of fries, cucumber slices. OR Giant salads dressed up with goat cheese, grape leaves, olives, roasted red peppers, etc. |
If cost is not an issue, for health and convenience, go to the deli counter at Whole Foods. |
The freshly cooked food at WF is not always tasty. I make better food at home, and as a result, prefer to bring my leftovers. |
Op here. This is on behalf of dh. He’s not liking leftovers recently. Didn’t always have a problem w/ it, but for a while we had light dinners, didn’t have left overs. Then we went back to having them around, and he isn’t enjoying them.
His work is not near a WF. Realistically, he won’t prepare. I prepare stuff for breakfast and kids lunches. And dinners. So I don’t have bandwidth to prep. *if I prep, or have leftovers, that would be the go-to. But what about busy weeks? Thanks. |
Let me add: this is what I think his list of 5 should be. Can anyone add ideas to this? -grocery store near his job. Has really good fresh salads. Big and filling too -chipotle bowls -Starbucks sous vide eggs (what else to fill him though??) -sandwich from nearby store. Not especially healthy. But better than fried food. Add lots of veggie toppings to balance it. -steak and veggie takeout from any nearby restaurant What else can you think of? |
Those sous vide eggs are so good. How about a couple of pieces of fruit bought from home, and a couple of packets of nuts? |
Op one more statement. He had a few weeks where he grilled extra chicken. And then he paired it with a different grain each day.Variety came from a little sauce or the different grains. That works for a while. It would definitely be ideal. Lately he’s not been preparing it. |
If there's a microwave, maybe frozen meals are the simple option? You can get ones with less sodium, more protein, etc. Also supermarkets sell premade salads... just use half the dressing. Add some canned beans or get some precooked chicken or something to put on top. |
He sounds annoying. If he wants to be so picky he can figure out his own lunches |
Sweetgreen is the best quality and easiest. |
Make him a wrap or sandwich. Whatever fillings he likes. Easy. Make it while you are making kids’ lunches. |
The fact that a physician cannot figure out for himself how to eat in a healthy manner says a lot about the state of healthcare in this country.
