Snow day

Do you realize how incredibly few (and lucky) individuals whose career and income put them in an ideal position for parenting during every possible contingency?

That is like 3% of people. What do you think would happen if only those 3% were having kids?

Sigh. It doesn’t need to be IDEAL. Life is not meant to be ordered around your convenience and comfort, despite all your protestations to the contrary.

Snow days happen. They happened when we were kids. They will continue to happen. HANDLE IT,

That is why they do the 2-hour delay - to give the ice on the roads some time to melt.

Yes, because there will be a ton of melting from tonight's low of 19 to the forecast temp of 23 at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. It will be a balmy 25 at 10:00 a.m.

not even that late, middle school buses would be out at 8:30 instead of 6:30, not much will change between those times

I don't think they will open tomorrow. Everything that started melting today with the sun has already refrozen into an icy mess at our house, including where the snow plow did in the road this morning.

Check the vdot plow map. https://plows.vdot.virginia.gov/public/map Most of McLean neighborhoods aren’t complete. Chantilly area hasn’t even started yet. Reston looks mostly done.

I've been trying to read this map for a while ... what is the blue line noting? Thanks!

I think (could be wrong) that just denotes a main road. I am not sure how you tell if they are done but I believe all main roads are done. For neighborhoods, click on the icon in the middle of the neighborhood. It will give a status.

I think blue roads are roads that still need to be plowed. Black roads have been plowed.

If you look at the map, all the neighborhoods have a little neighborhood icon. If you go to the top right, it has a neighborhood button. You can turn on and off the neighborhoods that are either 100% complete, Assigned, or Unassigned. I can't scroll out too far but, when I turn off the neighborhoods that are 100% Complete, I can see only one neighborhood disappear somewhere in Reston. All the neighborhoods like Oakton, McLean, Fairfax, Merrifield, Mantua, etc are still only "Assigned". All the neighborhoods in Chantilly that I can see aren't even assigned yet.

My whole neighborhood shows Assigned with blue lines on all the roads. They have all been plowed multiple times.
