What agencies does this actually apply to? |
WashPost has been trying to connect these two things across multiple articles. It’s irritating. The latest was about the rising homicide rate in DC, and there was an entire paragraph about how people aren’t working in offices as much, so downtown is essentially “lawless.” But that’s not where homicides are happening; no one is getting shot at Wednesday lunchtime in front of the Reagan building because a bunch of feds aren’t around to stop it. |
This meaning RTO? Applies to all agencies |
If WaPo reporters rabidly cheering on the “RTO” haven’t RTO’d themselves (which they haven’t), these people don’t matter at all. |
Any significant word on RTO yet? Our agency is still analyzing the memo. |
Looks like they have. They ran an article in the post about food trucks because they are cranky there is nowhere to eat lunch. If we all go back to work, then there will be food trucks again and they can eat lunch again. Nothing to do with productivity...they just want overpriced fusion tacos back on the menu. |
It’s coming for your agency soon. Mine just got RTO orders this week. Only for management right now, but everyone expects it to trickle down. |
I read that article and all the food trucks are making bank in the suburbs without paying for the DC license. Other than the headline, nothing made it sound like they would return to DC with or without RTO. |
Crickets on my office. We are 100% at home. They will first have to find a lease. |
We got RTO order last week starting in October. |
Are you fully remote now? |
We may be at the same agency. I was pretty surprised considering we closed down 2 of our office buildings. How are they going to fit us all in one consolidated, smaller building? Really hoping our union negotiates something favorable for us. This recent update has me glad not to be in management. |
100% telework |
If the reason to go in were winning WWII, most feds would go in. For a high proportion of fed jobs, including many represented here, here is no reason, and some active anti-reasons that have nothing to do with employee preference and everything to do with how meaningful work is done in 2023. My team is in four time zones. What does me physically reporting to an office to Teams with them have to do with winning anything? |
Either your theory of the case is that "the job" at least partly consists of building relationships in face-to-face environments and that is why everyone needs to come in, or your theory of the case is that other feds are so annoying that they should get out of your face with their terrible thoughts, needs and proposals. Not both. You seem to want to be a lone ranger who is in an office experiencing vibrant RTO...while surrounded by other lone rangers who somehow don't get in the way of your lone rangering. |
