As a former college basketball player, it has been awesome to see the growth of basketball in Asia and Australia (and Europe and Africa to a lesser extent)! It is truly a global game now.

Thank you. I thought so, it has nothing to do with slavery.
However it seems to be breaking law and constitution hence the Supreme Court hearing.

As of today, it is NOT breaking the law. We shall see what is decided.

If colleges want to do whatever the want to do, they should first go completely private forfeit all the tax benefits and and government aid.

This is a strawman and you know it. This is not how it works. You don't get to only be private if you receive no public benefit. So your church has to allow gay priests or they can't use the fire department and pay taxes? Very bad logic, stop it.

People have such a narrow view of "earning admission." There are always complaints on DCUM about athletes taking spots. University representatives (coaches) are practically begging those kids to attend and they are in the top few percent of their sport nationwide or even worldwide. Schools are not just looking for 4.0/1600. Based on the case record, the Harvard Admissions Office could clearly use some unconscious bias training though.

It's not unconscious bias. It is deliberate bias so they can meet their quotas.

What's the harm done if someone is denied admission to Harvard (or wherever) and has to attend their well-chosen 'safety'?

There is none.

Anyone who's taken a serious look at college outcomes has found definitively that it's the individual that matters, not the college they attend.

Let Affirmative Action fall. There's nothing in the Constitution that says colleges have to admit students based on test scores and GPAs. Harvard can continue to admit exactly the same students because they want that wide diversity that contributes strongly to their education being so spectacular.

The top students at Harvard's safeties, those who have the ability but weren't admitted for whatever reason, will go on to be just as successful as they would have been if they had a Harvard degree.

I shouldn't have made a blanket statement about letting AA fall, because it's obviously still needed in other arenas. I'm just saying it won't change much in college admissions if it's not allowed to be used in that realm.

Which ones?

Soccer, golf, skating, archery, etc
Asian countries are pretty good in Olympics(check out last medal list), so Asian kids are probably stong in those sports.

Yup test is optional already. Some in fact went test blind. Make GPA optional or whatever
Racial discrimination is unconstitutional.
So that's one thing to avoid for sure.

Let the kids play by the rules fairly and choose.
Pretty interesting to see after 10 20 30 50 years later.
Hope we sre still competitive against other countries.

We will still be just as competitive because Boston College, Tufts, BU, Wellesley, Brandeis, etc. are just as capable as Harvard of preparing top students for their careers.

Agreed.

Diversity of intellect is important to our society. It helps to have intellectually inferior students admitted to college to help provide relative and absolute context regarding the true accomplishments of the broader population. Oftentimes it is difficult to appreciate one’s achievements until compared and contrasted to the astonishingly egregious failures of lesser individuals.

Do we need diversity of racist a-holes though? Will they help the rest of us appreciate that we aren’t trash humans?

Asians probably don't want 100% Asian school, and normally dont want useless majors, so when popular majors are filled up, itll spill over.
SLDC Whites prefer those easy majors.
Probably 60-70% at the top

Quite honestly, Harvard won’t let this happen. They won’t ruin their brand. Look at TJ, non-Asians stopped wanting to go there when it became so heavily Asian. People (of all races) like their own race, they don’t want to go somewhere too heavily weighted away from their comfort zone.

Asian kids didn’t scare people off. The toxic environment was the deterrent.
