For those of you who are using Ozempic/Wegovy for weight loss, what has your experience been with appetite before and after starting the medication? Are you now eating less throughout the day or smaller portion sizes, or what has been the before and after for you? Asking out of pure curiosity more than anything else. |
Both. I don't get hungry as often and I get full much faster. I don't get insatiable and hangry like I did before. I don't feel the urge to eat past the point of fullness. Once I'm done I'm done. |
I’m only a week in, and zero change so far. |
So is it an appetite suppressant or is it changing the way you metabolize sugar? are you eating the same things and just less of it or have you changed both your diet and portion size? |
It slows gastric emptying, causing appetite suppression, and also helps your body produce insulin/metabolize sugar better |
Are drug names creates while dreaming ? |
I'm eating the same things and less of it but I have always eaten very healthily so nothing has changed there. But everyone is different, many people are eating whatever and still losing weight. It's more complicated than just "changing the way you metabolize sugar" but yes it's more than just simply an appetite suppressant. |
7 weeks in and this is my experience, too. The food “noise” is gone in my head and I am better able to limit portions and not overeat. The weight is coming off slowly. |
I'm in the midst of appealing authorization with my insurance company. I've been off Wegovy for 4 weeks. This week I realized that I don't have enough food in the house to sustain me without being on Wegovy. Meaning that while on Wegovy, a chicken breast plus veg is 2 or 3 meals. Now it's 1. Breakfast on wegovy is a small container of yogurt + berries. Now that does nothing for me and I'm looking for food again an hour later. On Wegovy, that was enough to lunch or later.
I'm still eating the same foods just bigger portion sizes and more often which I guess is how I got to the overweight size in the first place. I still drink water all day but I don't crave it like I did on Wegovy. |
So do you imagine being on Wegovy forever? Should it be approached as a continual medication (not a treatment)? |
I have two choices for continual medication---either blood pressure + cholesterol or obesity. On Wegovy, my BP and HCL went down and I was taken off both meds so I would have to take 1 (wegovy) in lieu of 2 (BP + HCL). Either way, I'm going to be on something forever. |
What are the potential side effects of these medications? If you don't have diabetes and are just overweight, won't the diabetes medication screw up your endocrine system?
Honest question. |
DP. Correct. There is no evidence that indicates semaglutide works as a non-continual medication for permanent weight loss. Anyone starting this drug should think of it as lifelong with no expectation that the weight loss will be easily maintained after discontinuation. |
What does this mean? It keeps you sustained longer by slowing down the absorption or digestion of food? |
If these drugs help you produce insulin or somehow whatever they're doing insulin-wise is leading to weight loss, does that suggest you had some sort of metabolic imbalance to begin with? Was your body craving sugar and not producing enough insulin beforehand? trying to understand how/why these drugs seem to lead to weight loss in people who aren't a)morbidly obese (maybe just a little overweight due to poor portion control) and 2) are seemingly otherwise healthy. |
