I'm in the midst of appealing authorization with my insurance company. I've been off Wegovy for 4 weeks. This week I realized that I don't have enough food in the house to sustain me without being on Wegovy. Meaning that while on Wegovy, a chicken breast plus veg is 2 or 3 meals. Now it's 1. Breakfast on wegovy is a small container of yogurt + berries. Now that does nothing for me and I'm looking for food again an hour later. On Wegovy, that was enough to lunch or later. I'm still eating the same foods just bigger portion sizes and more often which I guess is how I got to the overweight size in the first place. I still drink water all day but I don't crave it like I did on Wegovy.
So do you imagine being on Wegovy forever? Should it be approached as a continual medication (not a treatment)?
DP. Correct. There is no evidence that indicates semaglutide works as a non-continual medication for permanent weight loss. Anyone starting this drug should think of it as lifelong with no expectation that the weight loss will be easily maintained after discontinuation.
