Velma …

Has anyone watched it?

It has a 1.6 rotten tomatoes scores.
The reviews this week were brutal against mindy Kaling.

Thoughts?

I'm a fan of her work, but I thought she could have gone a different direction with this. But, I have some nostalgia for Scooby-Doo. Maybe those who don't would like this? Seems like a wasted opportunity. I stopped after one episode.

I don’t think Mindy was a writer for this, but one of her favorite collaborators was.

It’s complete trash. I don’t understand who this is for. But I grew up on scooby doo. There’s no dog LOL. Scoobi is a woman that Shaggy falls in love with. And shaggy isn’t even shaggy.

It feels like a parody of a parody than an actual show. I don’t understand who greenlit this project.

Did you ever see the South Park episode where they parody Netflix green lighting every show anyone pitches?

"Got a show about transsexual dragons here!"

I've never been a fan of Mindy Kaling (and I speak as a South Asian), so I avoided this. She comes off as narcissistic and her writing tends to reflect that.

I liked the Scooby Doo series from about...maybe 5-6 years ago, "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated". I like their treatment of the Velma character - she evolves over time and she has an LGBTQ+ romance (hinted at, but not shown outright the way Fred and Daphne's romance is). Good, spooky series with high quality animation.

I'm a little nostalgic for Scooby Doo, but I want it adapted well. Feeling inspired to go find the old movie adaptations with Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar, reading this thread. Zero interest in these stupid, tongue-in-cheek parodies that people come out with these days to just be "edgy". Not a fan of Mindy Kaling.

Finally a culture war entertainment product so awful that even the kind of people who like things like Hamilton and Lady Ghostbusters can't pretend it's not dogsht.

I can't take you seriously when you mention Hamilton. You probably like Les Miz as cutting edge Broadway.

It's not good but there are tons of crappy Scooby-Doo spinoff cartoons out there so people acting like Scooby-Doo is some sacred property are super weird.

I love that series!

Yeah I watched one episode and it wasn’t good and I have no plans to watch again but I think the overwhelming hate directed at it is out of proportion. I mean that Noah Centineo show is probably just as bad in its own way.

Doing a scooby remake without the dog should have been a red light. But also I think the people who complain about “Lady Ghostbusters” are happy to stomp on this.
