If you hit your Mounjaro/Ozempic goal and are on the maintenance side….

How are you doing with maintenance? Are you putting on weight? What is your plan to maintain? My Mom has lost 30 pounds and is at goal. So far so good, but she’s still keeping a pretty firm grip on her eating.

Not one answer. What does that tell you?

I'm not at my goal weight, but am on shot #3 and felt I was losing too fast, so I'm spacing them out further, and it helps me reinforce healthy eating habits. I'll let you know when I get to goal (starting BMI 32, down 12 lbs, 38 lbs to go).

Good for you!

It tells me that since it was so recently that these drugs became available for obesity, especially Mounjaro, there aren't many people who have achieved all their weight loss yet. Narrow that down to people reading DCUM on a holiday and the number becomes infinitesimally smaller.

How are your side effects? My dd started on 5mg and was nauseous all the time so she stopped. She just re-started 2.5 yesterday but is taking Zofran every 6 hours. She seems to be tolerating it better plus she is eating ( she had no appetite at all on 5mg which scared her). She exercises a lot but has insulin resistance and other conditions that seemed to make her hungry all the time.

She should join the mounjaro Facebook group. Folks are spacing the shots out every 10-14 days.

I started on 5 mg too and have insulin resistance. I have slight nausea the first two days but very slight and take ginger tablets. Mostly I don't care about food anymore, so I can really eat the right foods and track my food to make sure I eat enough and hit my nutrition goals. The biggest side effect for me is that I have always gotten reflux easily at night, and never ate after 8pm, but I've had to move that up to 6 or 7pm and keep dinner very light.

I lost 55 pounds since July and stopped 2 weeks ago. So far, my appetite is still decreased and I'm still losing (slowly).

I am hoping to lose another 10 pounds but I'm having a hard time getting the prescription filled right now so I'm either going to go on Wegovy (covered by insurance) or just go the old fashioned way with eat less/move more.

For me, the biggest hurdle for weight loss was the ideal that I had over 50 pounds to lose. It was such a daunting number. Now that I only have 5 to lose before I am not technically overweight.....I mentally feel like I can do that!

That’s great! What has your experience been like on the drug? Was it Mounjaro?

Yes, Mounjaro.
The experience has been overwhelmingly positive. The first few weeks, I had some nausea but nothing major. I felt thirsty all the time, so I drank tons of water. When I felt hungry, I would eat but I would only want half or less of what I would have previously.
I made conscious changes to my diet (more fruits and veggies) but I never felt like I was being deprived. Cravings for sweets and savory treats were gone. I didn't add any exercise routine but as I lost weight I felt better and move around a lot more. Taking walks with my kids, taking the stairs instead of the elevator etc. I had surgery in the middle of this time and I have had limited mobility for the last 10 weeks.
Once I'm cleared to, I'm going to start walking a couple of miles a day.

I started Mounjaro in mid-July and by mid November I had lost 30 pounds (Went up to 7.5, found the side effects too unpleasant and dropped back down to 2.5, but lost on that with no problem and few sideeffects).. At that point I stopped taking Mounjaro: doc said my BMI was low enough that the guidelines said I was no longer eligible.

That made me very nervous, but so far, so good: I have gained only about a pound back, which honestly seems miraculous, given Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. I mean, I am eating. I feel like I am eating a lot: I am definitely not depriving myself.

I guess we will just see what happens! I would love to believe that Mounjaro caused an enduring metabolic reset. But I know six weeks with no significant regaining of weight does not guarantee things will stay that way.

I hope you continue to experience success and good health. Thanks for sharing your experience.

At 6 weeks the mounjaro may still be in your system or only just totally out. It has a pretty long half life. But I really hope you continue to see weight maintenance.
