Extracurriculars you regret supporting

Competitive dance - costumes, makeup, dance moves, etc. Who are they trying to impress? Creeps?

I never got invested enough to feel regret. Neither of the. Seemed like a prodigy at anything, lol, so I never had big expectations of any activity. I just let my kids pursue whatever interests they had at the time. If the main goal is to have fun, it’s easier to go with the flow.

My mom's answer would be horseback riding -- expensive, time-consuming, cultlike, and injuries can be horrifying.

I can see all of these, but I’m so curious about cult-like. Can you explain? My kids have no interest, but when I was a kid I really wanted to try but it wasn’t in our budget.

We tried a bit of everything over the years, but it was via rec league teams and the ballet class at the rec ctr (again, no huge commitment, casual, kept it fun, affordable).

My daughter is learning to fly. The pilots license isn’t too bad compared to other activities. It’s the continued plane rental when she wants to fly. She is working at the airport so she is contributing but it’s still a lot.

Any of the super expensive EC’s are a waste. I’m shocked how many parents go down that road and then complain about the money. It’s not a secret that these things are expensive. A friend’s child does horseback riding and violin. Mother complains endlessly how much it all costs.

My sister, who absolutely cannot afford it, (and has multiple other kids) is planning to start my niece in horseback riding. But she has always been bad with money and entitled.

My daughter does gymnastics at the rec level and loves it, so I don't mind. When she was little we were approached by the gym about her joining the competition team and I agonized over it but said no in the end, thank goodness!
