Nervous but excited at the prospect of the process being over early. DD has a 1570 and is top 3 in her public school class, good leadership and extracurriculars too. The problem is it’s Duke so all we can do is hope

| Good luck! |
My best guess is that your daughter will be admitted. (My first thought was that she should be admitted.) I really hope that your daughter is admitted. Had a nephew graduate Duke in the past two years (as a "double Dukie" = undergraduate & graduate degree). He loved every minute of his experience at Duke. |

My friends daughter admitted.
Not great test scores (31 ACT), good gpa and excellent recommendations in a special program at their HS (not DMV). Is a legacy, which is probably what did it |
| Apparently another super competitive ED admit this year, ED admit rate dropped from 21 percent last year to 16 percent this year. |
| Any one else - Duke yes or no? |
| Deferred, 1540 SAT, 4.57 W GPA, USACO Gold |
| My DD's friend was just admitted. Maryland private and I'm pretty sure a legacy. My DD was rejected. |
| Selective schools consider legacy and community. Nothing is ever definite. |
| Ok. My DD didn’t apply. But she knows of a classmate who isn’t too sharp. But Daddy went to law school there and likely has made generous donations. I guess this helped to get this young lady admitted? We just couldn’t believe she got in. Not what we think of as Duke material. |
I can’t stand it when people make assumptions about someone else. Legacy will not help someone who is otherwise unqualified. |
| OP here, daughter was deferred. She’s now going to be applying to several peer schools like Harvard, Princeton, and Columbia, but her heart was with Duke. She’s doing alright though! |
Your DD sounds great, I wouldn’t worry too much. Duke is just too competitive, apparently their acceptance rate completely plummeted this year, moreso than the ivies. Duke is better than many of the ivies anyways so your daughter still has a chance at a great school, don’t read too much into it! My son is applying RD to Duke but we know not to expect anything, but we’d regret not throwing our ring in the hat! |
Son deferred 1580 on track to be salutatorian. Duke was really competitive this year. |
I mean. |
