The worst Holiday Cookies

Peanut butter blossoms, the ones with the Hershey kiss smooshed on top.

The minute someone tells me they make these every year I know they are not a good baker.

What cookies do you dislike receiving?

Who cares? Just don’t eat them. This isn’t a problem.

Any cookie covered in fake coconut "snow"

I don't love the peanut butter blossoms, either.

I dislike brookies on holiday plates. They can be delicious if baked correctly, but I often find them dry, and of course, not Christmasy in any way.

I'd rather eat peanut butter cups than the bolded.

These are two separate questions to me (worst holiday cookies vs. dislike receiving) - I agree that the peanut butter blossoms don't scream "master baker" to me, but they're still pretty yummy and I'd be down to receive them. I actually know people who buy the sugar cookie logs and slice and bake with their kids - they're just not bakers at all and don't have family recipes to pass on. But they're also not participating in cookie swaps or anything.

For worst holiday cookies to me it's the ones that don't seem holiday-ish: chocolate chip, stuff like that.

Dislike receiving: my SIL (lovely person in all other respects) makes these things I think she calls "millionaire's bars" or something (but they aren't the shortbread kind) that are just ridiculously over-the-top sweet/cloying. Pretzel bits and melted caramel and chocolate chips and blondies and and and. There might even be marshmallows in there. It's toooooo sweet and I don't enjoy them at all but they're like, her *thing* at holiday parties so I always take one.

I like the Hershey kiss cookies. They remind me of childhood and they’re easy and fun for kids to help with. My mom always gave me the job of unwrapping all the kisses and placing them in the cookie.

Not 100%, obviously, but I’ve noticed that people who brag about their baking skills are often not that great at it. And I’m always touched by homemade gifts, no matter the skill level of the baker.

Those nasty slice and bake cookies. How hard it is to make cookie dough?!

Anything that baker has decided to make healthier by reducing/removing sugar or fat. No thank you to weird cardboard applesauce cookies.
Anonymous
Anything that involves melted candy but no actual cookie.

This. I bake a lot of things but do the Hershey kiss cookies because my kids love them and as a bonus my DD now can't eat gluten and they were easy to convert to a flourless peanut butter cookie.

My whole family loves those Hershey kiss cookies. I made them as a kid, and my kid loves to make them with me. Who doesn't like peanut butter and chocolate? I don't make them to show off, I make them because my family enjoys them (and, like gingersnaps, they are really quick and easy). I also make other kids of cookies, some of which are more labor-intensive and some of which are less.

I dislike those merengue cookies and pinwheels.
