Hi all, my 53-year-old husband dresses in a suit and tie every day but needs some help dressing down. He has some joggers that he likes for casual wear but doesn’t like the look of running shoes so he’s asked me to consult the DCUM gurus for help with a show that looks okay with tapered joggers. I was thinking Allbirds or something but he doesn’t trust my judgement, lol. Any ideas? |
My husband loves Onitsuka Tiger Serrano, Mexico, or Ultimate 81. |
I would go airmax. Just cool enough but still age appropriate. |
I like this suggestion on a slender, smaller framed man, but it would look silly in anyone vaguely tall or big. Second the AirMax suggestion, unless he is very short and stocky in which case they look too big. |
I was going to suggest allbirds. |
Nike dunks |
My husband wears All Birds with his joggers. I thought they made him look like a frumpy dad, but my single coworker in her early 30s says younger guys wear them.
He also wears some “vintage” or “throwback” style suede Saucony or Puma sneakers in colors. Whatever you do, don’t get him white New Balance. That’s the ultimate middle aged dad shoe. |
Bah humbug to you too! New poster - I know a hot dad in my neighborhood who wears low profile shoes like the Mexico or the Feiyue classic. I know because I like low sneakers like classic Keds and I wanted a pair of Tigers, but then I didn’t get them because I thought it would be creepy and weird to get the same shoes as my kid’s friend’s dad. |
I recommend looking at photos of the joggers as styled and choosing what shoes the professionals styled them with, like this pair of Vuoris is with a neutral colored Adidas Ultraboost.

Jordans |
I second the Jordan’s or the air force Nikes. I’ve seen men in their 30-50 age range wear these and we had the originals back in the 90s. |
Your DH sounds like my DH. He really likes anything by Johnston and Murphy. For example:
