Beyond Burgers

How terrible is it to eat these things several times a week? I'm vegetarian and aside from fish, this is my go-to easy fast meal (for myself--not my family) where I sauté one beyond burger, along with some sautéed vegetables and sweet potatoes or maybe sweet potato fries, maybe a salad to go with. I mean the nutritional content of the BB isn't terrible, but I'm finding I'm eating these 3-4 a week at least.

It's fine. But maybe switch out with black bean burgers sometimes.

Is there one you recommend? The frozen ones taste like cardboard. Or I could make one (def have seen recipes for these), but would be nice if there were a black bean burger equivalent to the BB.

I’m not a fan of Beyond, but I do like this one by Dr Praegers. The mushroom risotto.

Do you know what the "natural flavors" are and if they are harmful in large doses?

I was a vegetarian in the 90's for about 10 years. I found myself eating a lot of pasta and fake meat.

My diet has evolved over time. Now for protein, I am focusing on fish, eggs and yogurt. I'm done with fake foods. Dr. Mark Hyman calls them "Franken-foods". To me it's more logical to eat foods closer to their natural state - probably the though behind the grocery store "Whole Foods".

What I've been reading lately is that post-menopause women (like myself) have a higher need for protein. I need to be on top of my weight and to get the same amount of protein, I would have to eat a very large quantity of beans etc.

I'm realizing now that all the pasta I ate really didn't add anything nutritionally for me.

NP. Yes. These are not “health burgers”.

OP, IMO you’d be better off with something like Dr Praegers or others that are are closer to whole-food-based. Or you can cook up a big batch of homemade veggie burgers and freeze individually between parchment paper to heat as needed; this is what I do.

If you eat fish, you are not considered a vegetarian. Labels are important because people will assure you that the food they are serving you is vegetarian, but they are under the mistaken impression that vegetarian means that one eats fish.

Beyond Meat and the like are chemically-laden frankenfoods, and disgusting. They are not a whole food source, and are highly processed.

If you are vegetarian because you are an animal rights person, ask yourself how many animals die when you plow a field to plant your vegetables.

I am not a vegetarian and that is the dumbest thing I've heard this week.

Since you eat fish, how about panfrying a piece of fish instead of the beyond burger? Super easy and quick and much healthier.

It isn’t, though. Moles, voles, mice… etc. all dead to plow a field for your quinoa or whatever.

Salmon burgers or salmon cakes (with cornmeal and egg batter) are top notch.
