| DS has all A’s in MCPS and is a good athlete but academics is more important to us. We want the best opportunity for our kid to get the best academic opportunities, a welcoming community, a positive high school experience as far as nice classmates, and position him for a future professional network and college matriculation opportunities. We applied to Good Counsel, Bullis, Landon, and Georgetown Prep to enter the 9th next year. FYSA- He is a URM and we will be a full pay family. Which school would you choose if your DS was accepted to all and why? |
| OP Here - Also, we have no preference for a religious based school or not. |
| Those are all very different schools and we can’t tell you which you should choose without personally knowing your kid. He also should have something of a say in where he goes. |
|
Honestly, none.
Is it too late to apply to GDS, Sidwell, and Maret? |
Ignore this person, OP. |
+1. I wouldn’t send my son to any of these schools either. |
OP - Don’t listen to them, those are good schools. They are trolls. Everyone knows GDS, Sidwell, and Maret are filled with a lot socially awkward students that would not fit in and feel very comfortable in most private schools due to various reasons. Thus, their parents do their best effort to trash the other privates. |
Landon or Bullis are more diverse I would choose one of them |
Nope. I wouldn’t send my son to Prep or Landon because of the sexist all boys environment. I wouldn’t send him to GC or Bullis because my son is Mary and those aren’t very rigorous schools. If your kid is an average student they are ok choices I guess. But absolutely not to Prep or Landon. Not interested in raising a sexist jerk who learns ”bros before hos” straight from his teachers. |
Smart, not Mary Typo |
| I would let my kid do visits and let them choose. |
| Whichever one was the most convenient to get him to and from on a daily basis. |
|
Landon will be the most diverse if that matters. My URM nephews looked at all boys schools and found Landon the most diverse.
Prep, no. I’d go to GC if you wanted STEM, football or had a learning disability. Bullis would be my 2nd choice for academics, welcoming, overall great experience. But really I’d shadow and see where he feels the best fit. |
Which sports? |
+1 kid needs to shadow and go to accepted students events and it becomes more clear. My kids applied to all of these schools except GP and picked a different school. My preference from your list would have been Landon, then Bullis. This was the order of my most recent applicant (#2/3, first choice not on your list). Good Counsel is very different but also significantly longer commute for us, would not have been worth it. |
