Do you have a favorite child?

Why?

This seems like a trap. Why don't you start and tell us which of your children is your favorite and why.

Of course, but I have one child so they are the favorite. My parents always favored my sibling. It was obvious.

OP here. Not a trap. My parents had favorites. I posted this earlier and it got deleted. Not sure why this would be a trap? How the heck would I even know who is answering? Paranoid much?

Just wondering if having favorites has gone away with more enlightenment in parenting these days. Seems like something past generations did. And it was very destructive at least in our family.

It usually is, right? Why do you think they favored your sibling?

OP again, for me I think it was because she had a difficult pregnancy with me and I had an undiagnosed learning disability which made me more difficult I guess. I mean I was well behaved. I had to be or I got beaten. But I was disorganized and only got OK grades, etc.

The point of this is really "Why did your parents favor one child over another", not asking someone to reveal their favoritism so they can be bashed.

Or you got beaten? How awful. No snark- I hope you have or have had a good therapist.

Fair enough. My apologies for not expressing the post more to your liking.

Yep. And these days the abuse continues with the occasional hate mail or one word answers when I haven’t responded according to her current drama. Needless to say I have off the charts anxiety these days.

My H definitely acts like our oldest is his favorite and it has affected my younger son.

I like each of them more at time or maybe even times in their life.

What is your real question? Is it how to deal with not being the favorite.

My mom had a clear favorite (there are 6 of us) so really 2 favorites.

Wanting to know just how common it really is. No one, I don’t think anyway, would ever admit to favoring one in person. But perhaps they will in an anonymous forum.

Thanks for your honesty.

I hope you’re joking. I’ve known couples that have meant it when they said the dog was more important to them.
