Sad, no matter who the victims are.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, this was only the 25th (by my quick count) mass shooting (defined as 4 or more people getting injured or killed) so far in November in the US. So, completely normal in Murica, except this one may be a hate crime.

Is every shooting at a gay nightclub automatically a “hate crime”, or are you aware of any mitigating circumstances that might make it so?

America values gun ownership/rights over people’s lives.

I said "this one MAY be a hate crime" because the club itself said that. But so sharp of you to quickly pounce on that. You can be assured that investigators will consider the possibility that it is a hate crime, among other possibilities.

There will be a press conference at 4:00 CET today so let's see what the authorities say.

and if the shooter turns out to be a felon who can’t legally posses guns?

News sources are saying the motive is “unclear” meaning this story will likely be memory holed

Since there is a mass shooting in American almost every day, it is no longer newsworthy. In any other country, any mass shooting of 4 or more people would make the news, regardless of circumstances. In this country, it is business as usual.

If it is done by someone with extreme right wing views, it is a hate crime.

If, like the pulse nightclub attack, it is done by someone with extremist Islamist views, it is "terrorism" and not a hate crime.

If it is done by someone with no ostensible political beliefs, it is random, senseless violence.

What a strange comment. Why would you say "no matter who the victims are."?

I believe this makes over 600 fellow human beings murdered in mass shootings in just 2022. The shocking and chilling part is that we are no longer shocked. Children are murdered and politicians do not give a damn because they will lose votes.

+1 Let's now bow our heads in a moment of appreciation for the sacrifice of little children's bodies so that we have the ability to own AR-15s. Amen.
