Like a lot of people, I'll read it out of general interest, but it's not going to change the fact that it was written by a disturbed person with guns who wanted to get famous and commit suicide by cop. I mean, does it really matter what reasons these killers give for why they kill? They all have some kind of grievances, real or imagined, and they are clearly intent on dying and taking others with them in a very newsworthy fashion. The only mass killer in recent history whose motives I'd like to know is the Las Vegas shooter. He killed 60 people and wounded 100s of others and nobody knows why.

+1 doesn't matter any more than the Buffalo grocery racist shooter nor the congressional baseball game shooter. It's all just a reason to deflect from...

What can we do to decrease gun deaths? Also nobody is daying eliminate. Reduce. Gunshot wounds are the number one cause of death in the US and tje GOP is deflecting with legislation about trans kids and books. GUNS ARE THE ACTUAL DANGER.

70% OF THOSE “GUN DEATHS” ARE SUICIDES.

SUICIDES!!

We have a mental health crisis, but you keep deflecting from that.

Removing guns will not magically cure anyone, and it won’t even have an impact on suicides.

Mental health is the problem.

NP. Of course it will have an impact. High gun ownership rates are directly related to high suicide rates, because suicide is usually caused by acute feelings; if those feelings pass before the person kills themselves, then they very often survive. Guns, unfortunately, are very good at killing people including in suicides so the odds you survive long enough for the acute feelings to pass are much lower in a household with a gun. My husband is suicidal periodically, if we had a gun in our home I'd be a widower and single parent but I'm not.

No.
The people behind the gun pulling the trigger are the actual danger. Guns do not shoot themselves.

When a gun is used to hurt or kill innocent people it is being used by a criminal or an extremely mentally ill person. These are the people who should not have access to firearms.

So let's legalize Oxy, Heroin and other drugs. They aren't bad. People who are addicted are.

We have both a gun problem AND a mental health problem and yet you Republicans keep staunchly refusing to do anything about either of them and derail any attempt by anyone else to do anything about them.

Removing guns would absolutely reduce suicide deaths.

I had one family member who 30 years ago tried to kill himself by slicing his wrists. Didn’t work. He is still alive.

I had another family member whose instrument of choice was a gun he’d just purchased. He died instantaneously from the gunshot to his head.

Guns are much more efficient and brutal at killing than other means of suicide. Although guns are not the most common form of suicide attempts, they are the most lethal. 85% of suicide attempts by gun end in death. https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/magazine/magazine_article/guns-suicide/

Guns plus mental health = disaster. We need mental health restrictions to own guns.

And yet they do because we've made it far too easy to get guns, we've flooded this country with guns, we have millions of irresponsible gun owners, we have millions of people owning guns who shouldn't, we don't keep track of who has guns or whether or not they should have guns.

Admit it, our gun laws are a complete mess.

I am ready to support an assault gun ban.

I wish the left would realize that two of the reasons we “cling” to our guns are (a) we think some of you want to take away all guns, not just assualt weapons, and (b) we r think some of you are soft on crime and don’t support effective policing.

I think these perceptions make the right more rigid on gun control.

The truth is the vast majority of us just want laws like those in the UK. Polling makes this clear.

And policing luckily is local. Unless you live in San Francisco, I wouldn't worry about this.

When mass shootings are statistically less likely in states with more restrictive gun laws and conservatives ignore this...

Or then point out "well there's lots of gun deaths in blue cities where gun laws are stricter" and completely ignore that the majority of those guns in city crimes are straw purchases from red states with sh*tty gun laws. Chicago criminals don't get their guns in Illinois, they are trafficked from red states

I'm a democrat and I don't know any democrat who wants to take away all guns, though I do see conservatives make this claim that it's what all democrats want repeatedly. Even here when people post about sensible gun law ideas, I do see it suddenly interpreted as take away all guns when the person wasn't sayinf that whatsoever. I think that's a claim played on the right to scare you all away from making any movement to sensible gun legislation and it isn't remotely true

But neither of those is entirely true, and is only what conservative propagandists have led you to believe.
Most on the left would be fine with stricter gun regulation, without taking "all" guns.
Most on the left would be happy to have the police do better on actual violent crime and to have more training and more respect for the community, instead of doing stupid things like police executing someone on the street over something dumb like selling loose cigarettes, shoplifting or passing a phony $20 in a convenience store.

To prevent mass shootings, keep guns away from domestic abusers.

x10000000000000

I don’t want all your guns. I don’t care if you have rifles to hunt (though if you don’t keep them locked up appropriately, my kids aren’t allowed to play at your house). I don’t care if you keep one or two because you live in the sticks and have to dispatch the occasional animal that’s acting funny. Hell if you collect historical guns I don’t care if you have twelve (also please don’t make me listen to the stories because I don’t find gun history or history via guns very interesting).

I want people to have normal gun collections, like pre 80s pre-crazy weaponry. I think domestic abusers, stalkers and the deeply mentally ill shouldn’t have them and I don’t know why that’s a quibble.

I want the police to work for everyone, not just their friends.

And, conservative southern guy, I want you to stop listening to propaganda. You’re obviously smarter than that, but you’re falling for the lies they’re telling you.

Please don’t try to conflate these two very different issues. Drugs should be legal and highly regulated. Guns should be illegal. Oxy doesn’t kill multiple innocent bystanders.
