One of the reasons I’m sure they went with Sept 1 is because I already heard parents with August kids in their correct grade level saying they would just play down to have the benefits of the oldest kids. All that would’ve done would’ve created teams missing players at practice cause of High School and then leaving teams when they graduated a year earlier forcing teams to scramble to fill positions senior year.

Easy to fix this - August kids play with their grade year. Provide proof of enrollment with birth certificate and you are done. And you actually do achieve the SY registration goal of having grade peers play together. These leagues can’t seem to think outside the box.

To be fair - no league has said anything so there could be some variation of this

I want to believe it’ll all just stay BY! Right! That makes the most sense. BY now, BY tomorrow and BY forever!

Yes! 100%
I mean honestly what is the argument for waiting until 26/27? I've talked to our board members and implementation & logistically making the switch could be done in a matter of days for the club. If that's not possible then your club needs a new director.
Why put the "paying" parents & kids though a year of politics and division knowing the teams are going to be separated in a year.
Playing time, recruiting q3 & q4 kids from other clubs during season ect. There should never be a wasted year in our kids development, but feel in 25/26, private training/small sided tournaments/ODP and just wait until 26/27 with no club, might be the best bang for your buck in a lame duck year if no changes are made next Fall.

board members don’t know what goes into the shift, and it can’t be done “in a matter of days.”

The registrar’s work? Yea that’s easy. The rest of it isn’t at all. And anyone telling you that is an idiot, and anyone that believes it is an idiot too.

Does it take a year? No. Does it take at least 1 season? Yes! And do clubs need to look outside as well as at their own roster to compete the adjustment, yes! And if that is the case it might take 2 season (Spring and Fall or Fall and Spring).

Just because it “sounds” like moving name place cards at a dinner party, it isn’t.

There might have been a few of them, but the vast majority early on were just “y’all are just gossiping, show us the proof.”

And it turned out to be true! The vast majority of claims that we started with were just absolute bologna.

Disagree. ECNL wanted to implement for 25. It was happening. Directors shared with their member clubs. Then the lazy coaches and BY crybaby coaches bombarded us soccer and ruined it all

Now you're crying because you have to wait a year. It took about the same the last time.

What are you talking about? I want SY. I’m just saying the leagues haven’t officially come out and said anything specific so everyone talking about August kids, etc. are jumping a little to conclusions because there might be some caveats to the 9/1 cutoff.

They should have some carve outs for leagues that play HS. For the top ones that don't -- they shouldn't.

I agree, but also, don’t the exceptions need to apply at younger ages too? Otherwise the August kids may never even get into the sport because they can’t join a team with their classmates/friends even in Kindergarten. Or they never make the leap to competitive (if they had a rec league early on that allowed them to play with classmates as an entry point) because they are the very youngest trying out and trying to break into teams with kids a grade ahead (greater maturity). By high school how many of these August kids will even be left?

The problem with a 12-month window, there's always some in the 12th month. Right now, that's December. Next up, August.

I would argue it’s even worse for August in SY than December in BY because a move to SY puts all classmates/grade peers together except August. In BY at least the December kids aren’t the only month of kids in their grade. They have August through November in their same situation.

Well, let's hope there'll have some exceptions, especially in states with the earlier cutoff. The rub might be what happens when teams from different states play, that joint announcement seems to peg a national date, suggesting leagues that criss cross the country will rely on 9/1. ... FWIW, various leagues, especially during the trapped year, tried to set up exceptions to help.

You will rarely have any classmates in ECNL teams, so this is not a good argument for ECNL to offer a waiver. For local Rec league, I think Aug. will have the flexibility. But for national top league like ECNL, it will be straight 12 months window. ECNL might consider GY for showcase only.

Classmates = kids in the same grade as you, NOT actual classmates from the same school

The problem being ages in 1 grade can vary a lot more than 12-month registration windows.
