How much does it cost to renovate a small kitchen?

I live in a condo and have a small kitchen. I think it’s possible to get more space with a renovation. I’m curious how much that would cost. How would I get a rough estimate? Are renovations still super expensive right now?

Our kitchen is tiny. About the size of my old walk in closet. It’s costing us about 40k to renovate the kitchen and knock out a wall to make it slightly bigger.

We spent $60k to do a 10x10 kitchen (including knocking down a non load bearing wall). It was a total gut job.

$300,000.

If it’s a galley kitchen and don’t want to break the bank, you can probably get it done for $10k-20k.

What?!? Are your counters made of solid gold?

This is unlikely unless it's a total DIY job, or you're reusing cabinets, appliances or both.

Agree. That's more like an appliance budget, not project budget.

We just gutted / re-did our kitchen in the Boston metro area.

Cabinets cost ~$11k, countertops (quartz) were ~$3k, appliances (over the range microwave, gas stove, dishwasher, fridge, garbage disposal) were ~$4k. Another $3,500 for sheetrock. Some electric and plumbing work, but part of a larger reno so hard to slice out "just" the kitchen cost.

We were fortunate enough to have a family member do the install.

No backsplash yet, but estimating ~$500 for the tile.

We did a galley kitchen with new appliances but no structural changes for $25-30k a few years ago.

If you're getting wolf, sure. But you can go to BB/HD/etc and buy a fridge, microwave, dishwasher and stove all for around $5k.

Then there's the flooring ($500-1000).

If you're getting granite countertops, that will probably be around $5k.

We renovated our small townhouse kitchen in January 2022. It is 10' x 13'. We kept the appliances (other than microwave). Otherwise, we gutted, got new cabinets, added an island, converted the wall between the hallway/front door and the kitchen into a half wall and took out one inset cabinet and moved the small section of wall back to add 1.5 ft of countertop (much needed). That plus a half bath remodel and the floors and ceiling which wrapped around the hallway into the dining room. They also removed two soffits and pushed the plumbing and electrical back further into the walls so that we could have cabinets that extended up to the ceiling instead of shorter cabinets. Total $35K. The kitchen itself cost about $30K. The extra $5K was the half bath and extended the floors around into the dining room and eliminating the stucco from the ceiling.

We live in Laurel, MD. We used VKB Kitchen and Bath in Columbia, MD.

They have other locations, but that is probably closest for most of DCUM. They are currently working on a new location in Washington DC, but it's not opened yet.

I just received 2 estimates for my small galley kitchen. Keeping appliances, new tile floor, new counters, backsplash, new sink and moving DW to make flow better. Both contractors wanted me to get new cabinets, although I love the cabinets and they are in good shape.
1st - 27k
2nd-29k

I then insisted on keeping the cabinets

2nd- 21k

Considering I'm keeping the appliances and cabinets, I still think this is a bit high. So now I may try to do some DIY or save about 10k more and wait until next year.
