The D.C. Office of Campaign Finance has determined that @tweetelissa violated rules while polling the Ward 3 race before the June primaries. She's been ordered to refund costs of the polling. "[Silverman] chose to expend Fair Election Funds on a poll regarding a Ward Primary Election in which she was not a candidate. Clearly, this was not an acceptable expenditure of campaign funds," the OCF order reads. |
| Good. Well deserved. |
| Woah, that’s not great. |
| Did Elissa also use her campaign funds to throw the big party she promised to celebrate the ANC redistricting? She vowed to hold the party in Cleveland Park, which came across as a bit deaf (or maybe was intended as an extended middle finger), considering the split of the neighborhood. |
|
So, no fine? She just has to reimburse? That's not much of a violation. Essentially a bookkeeping error.

Silverman responds: “I should not be punished because I am a good person. Now watch me lawyer up.”

| Pretty obvious she broke law. This was not a close call. |
| If she broke the law, then so did Goulet. |
When did Goulet use public campaign funds to poll a race that he was not a candidate in? |
Yep. Not a surprise given previous behavior. |
Definitely a middle finger to Cleveland Park. It is sad to see the nastiness trickling down into local politics, and now into the ANC races. Where have the centrists gone? |
They already ruled on Goulet complaint. Not guilty. |
| I'm voting for the Republican and Green Party candidates for at large. New voices. |
I agree. Woah, she paid for a poll in a ward. Whooptie damn doo. |
If it’s “just a bookkeeping error” then why is Silverman pushing back so strongly? Because this is an integrity issue for her. |
