Favorite Costco buys?

Just renewed our membership after 5 years. Anything good to look out for?

there are a bunch of facebook groups all about costco buys. Honestly, I think you will get the best intel from those.

Personally I dislike most of what Costco has. I'm also convinced that even the name brand stuff that is sold in bulk is of lesser quality. Like outlet malls..

BUT, I do like their cartons of egg whites (super good deal), the fresh wild caught salmon filets (seasonal), and they occasionally have great produce buys.

Here's what I always buy from Costco.
maple syrup
chopped garlic
Avacado oil
frozen cod
frozen fish sticks
frozen salmon burgers (these are our favorite)
Prosecco (the costco brand with the purple label)
pesto
spinach
frozen broccoli
frozen mixed veggies
almond milk
costco brand sparkling water
eggs
toilet paper
dish soap
laundry soap
trash bags
bread and hamburger buns (I split them and freeze half)

We get 90% of our basics at Costco, but that's not really something "to look out for." Maybe you'd walk past it but you shouldn't is a shorter list for me.

Pesto
Prosecco
Instant Pho
Wine advent calendar (out now!)
32* underlayers for winter
Keto pumpkin seed granola (not sure the name of this but the bag is mostly green - buy it!)
Make your own pizza kits - these show up very infrequently but are a great deal

Years ago I was a regular shopper at Costco but now I go rarely. I often think about canceling my membership but then we find something useful to purchase like tires or a laptop (they often have the best price on Macbooks and the best return policy). About 2x a year we buy something like a prime rib roast or beef tenderloin for a special occasion. For years I was a big fan of purchasing their olive oil but I feel like it’s not the same quality it once was. I do bake a lot and think their vanilla extract is great and they have a great deal on nestle chocolate chips. Every so often they have something interesting in clothing (jackets) or housewares (KA mixer) but those items come and go. They have some nice produce deals but it’s simply too much for us and I get annoyed digging through pallets for produce that looks good. We used to buy a lot more items there but after checking out Sam’s Club we’ve switched to shopping at Sam’s for all the kids’ snacks, yogurt, Bounty, etc. It’s just so easy to park and get in and out.

I don’t think you have evidence for “ of less quality” sentiment.
Even the store brand items are high quality and win independent reviews E.g Kirkland organic Extra Virgin olive oil.

Look, I haven't done a formal research study- just my opinion. For instance, I bought a bag of dried mango. Same brand as I would buy in the store. The regular store's smaller bag is mainly big hefty pieces with a few scrap pieces. The big Cost bag was mainly the screwy scrap pieces. This happened on several occasions, not fluke. Same with other bulk items I've bought.

Gave up on Costco years ago. So many better stores around that are much more convenient with great prices.

Does Costco deliver? We live in MoCo and I would join but our Costcos are terrible--too crowded and the parking lots are awful when we have gone. My SIL lives near one outside NYC and it's immaculate with a huge parking lot--I'd belong if we had something like that.

Yes, via Instacart (though I've never used it, b/c I live near one that's easy to deal with in person).

Also there’s lots of stuff you can have shipped or do two day delivery for (but I find it’s hard to get to the $75 threshold for free 2 day delivery unless i buy things i don’t need)

I buy my trash bags laundry detergent but that’s about once every six months.

They had ghiradelli brownie mix last time but really how much of that do i need

Family of 3 (4 when DS is home from college) and I'm in Costco weekly. It's really replaced the grocery store for the most part for us.

Can't beat the cost of the rotisserie chicken. Get the instant mashed potatoes, some frozen mixed veggies, and you have an easy dinner. I also get the big pack of already-picked rotisserie chicken and use it to make chicken noodle soup, chicken pot pie, chicken alfredo. I freeze whatever I don't use after a few days.

And $10 for a huge pizza from the food court?

Gas prices are lower than any other gas station in my area.

Their chocolate tuxedo cake is delicious.

Fresh bread is great too. Just need to eat it before too long since there's no preservatives or artificial ingredients to keep it lasting two weeks.

Street tacos are another easy dinner.

My entire work-from-home wardrobe is now Costco. $20 sneakers!

Pay for it all on the Costco visa and you get a nice cash check every year.

And an amazingly easy return policy.
