| Would an intellectual but athletic boy do well at SJCHS? Or is it for just athletic types? |
| Look elsewhere. |
You're combining the name of two different schools. There is no St. John's College Prep. There's St. John's College High School on Military, and St. John's Catholic Prep. I don't understand the "but" in your sentence so I can't answer. |
| I find it curious that a thread with the EXACT SAME name was started a month ago. |
| I would let him shadow for a day. It is a very sporty school. That being said, my DD who is far more artsy is enjoying her experience there. |
+1. It’s a school for alpha males. Which is not necessarily a bad thing because we need those too. Sounds like you should look at a magnet or STEM school for a better fit. |
| I wish we knew which school were talking about. Different ones, I’m sure. |

Maybe we need to have Jeff lock this thread and refer to this one. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1082523.page

| Maybe St. Anselm's or the Heights? |
Not for an athlete. |
Depends on the kind of athlete. If you want to play, earn a varsity letter, and maybe captain and win some PVAC championships or do well in metro level competitions in golf, wrestling, swimming, etc, it's a possibility. They don't make school sports a full time job, which is a bonus for a lot of athletes. If you are looking to be recruited in lacrosse or football, then no. If you want to be recruited in an individual sport and play club, it works, especially since they don't have a three season sport requirement so you can focus on your club. As long as you can also manage the workload. Some guys can, some don't want to, which is understandable. |
I have had 2 kids there - totally disagree with the above. My son chose between SJC and St. Anselm and was very happy all 4 years at SJC. The kids are kind to each other and its big enough where they all find their people |
Boys are all in beast mode? |
