| Is it Latino friendly? Seems very Irish Catholic. I want to know if some teachers are Latino, and if there are kids with a Hispanic or Latino background. Thanks! |
| Yes |
| I don't know much about the school, but I do know one person whose kids attend. He's definitely conservative Irish Catholic and Trump supporter. Not saying all parents are this way, but just pointing that out. I also took a look at the school directory and I don't see any Hispanic teachers. |

Parent of 2 kids @ SJC here. There is a larger latino population than i've seen at other DC catholic schools or privates. Each class has 300 or so kids. I don't know what the experience is like as I am not Latino, but my kids have had Latino classmates and friends, and the kids I knew from team sports etc.. seemed to have a good experience looking at it from the outside. It is not a particularly MAGA feeling place and the administration is not at all like that. Any catholic school is going to have an Irish Catholic presence - but SJC does not have as much of the clubby Nova crowd as Gonzaga, Visitation etc..

OK sorry, I thought you were talking about St. John's Catholic Prep...different school. Please disregard above. |
| OP, can you clarify which school? |
| Saint Johns College High School in DC |
The Trumpiest Irish Catholic families we know have kids at SJCH. |
| There are kids at SJC who are "trumpy" because it is a diverse school in every way - in no way is that the prevailing sentiment in either of my kids grades. Not sure if its the same person whose children do not go there who keeps bringing up their one trumper friend. We live in DC and most of my kids friends were also from DC or just over the boundary in MD and the kids were not into that at all. There were kids who were in my kids classes and I thought it was a good experience for them to be exposed to people they disagreed with. Btw we are Irish Catholic and not trumpers. Not sure why PP thinks that's a relevant demographic criteria as to whether a Latino student would be comfortable @ SJC |
| I know an Afro Latina alum and she's also practicing Catholic. From my understanding, this school is one of the more diverse Catholic schools. |
| Most Irish Catholics I know (virtually all of them) are 1960s JFK progressive dems/independents. This breed of ultra conservative right wing Catholicism is non-existent among the Irish Catholics I know and the ones I’m related to. |
Joe Biden Catholicism is if this vein too, bred from the Irish working class. |
Agreed but sadly, there are lots of Irish Americans anow in the MAGA/Trump crowd now. Think of the last names of many of Trump's WH staff.

| Precisely, pp. |

Would an atheist family feel at home there? Would an atheist kid be socially ok?
I have worked at a Catholic university and it was fine, but not sure about this school and I know schools can be different. We're considering it for HS in a few years. |
