I am 48 and the weight gain is annoying

Anonymous
I workout regularly, don’t drink and eat decently but menopause is changing my shape. While trying on clothes in front of the really unflattering mirrors at Nordstrom I was kind of like WTF. My boobs are bigger, my middle is rounding and even though I am a size 8/M things just don’t fit or flatter the same.

I am determined to go carb free and maybe ramp up the cardio (I currently go to range theory 4 days a week). Help. What else can I do? Getting old stinks.

Don't go carb free, it's unsustainable. Lower carbs yes, reserve alcohol for special occasions only, and work out harder.

I agree. I'm mid-50's, female. I've reduced my cardio and increased my resistance training. I'm very low carb, but not carb free. I get my carbs from low glycemic fruits, and also vegetables. The rest is good quality protein. I also drink a lot of water, and next to zero alcohol - maybe one drink a month.

I also time my eating so that I stop eating around 7pm and don't eat again until 11am - although I do have my coffee with heavy cream in the morning.

I'm 50 and barely eat to maintain my size 8 body. if I had consumed this little in my 20s or 30s I would have been a skeleton. It's insane.

Some of my friends don't have this issue and have actually become thinner and often frail-looking in menopause. But the rest of us are eating like birds and still gaining weight. It's just lovely 🙁🤪

do any of these menopause supplements work?

I'm the mid-50's PP. Not sure which supplements you're talking about, however I'm on HRT which for me I really believe has been a huge help. I started on HRT at the one year mark of being period free.

OP don't up the cardio, lift heavy weights. That is the secret. You (and me) are losing muscle mass. The better cardio is HIIT, but not more than 20-30 minutes a few times a week.

Is that only estrogen or a combo and if so which?

I do a combo. Estradiol patch, progesterone pill. I've been on this regimen for 7 years.

Turned 48 and put on 3 pounds and then another 3 pounds when I turned 49. It is so annoying! I tried IF for three months and weight stayed the same. I’m not overweight (5’7 and 140lbs) but I am not sure how to stop this steady creep up. I already weight training 2-3 times a week with very heavy weights (180lb deadlifts etc) and also do HIIt 2-3 times a week so can’t really add on any more exercise. I still have regular periods but must be in perimenopause

I just turned 49 and am in the same boat, OP. I don’t know how this happened but it’s like I blinked and put on six pounds overnight.

Same. I easily have put on 10 pounds this year and if anything- I work out more and more conscious about what I eat and do not drink.

NP, but what do you eat for protein?

I find these threads amusing because everyone seems so surprised. What did you all think when this happened to your mothers? That they were just lazy and undisciplined?

You put on weight because you eat more calories. That is the only reason. You can blame other things, but that, combined with moving around less generally, is the reason.
