Extended clothing/husky sizes aren't doing the job for 11 y.o son

Anonymous
I've posted before about the situation r.e my oldest. He's not chubby. His butt and lower body are BIG so finding pants that fit has been challenging.

The husky sizes we've bought from JC Penny and Lands End are decent but he still complains they're uncomfortable to walk and sit down in. We've also tried small/medium men's sizes but again, they're too long in the legs given his height. He basically refuses to wear anything but sweatpants though I've told him he can't wear them forever. I'm not getting each outfit tailored. Given that he may enter a growth spurt in a couple of years...there's not much point in trying to sew together each pair of pants if he's going to outgrow them 12 months later.

It's just hard to dress the combination of huge buttocks and thighs + wider hips stacked on a 5'0 frame.

What advice did you get before? Sounds like you’re going to need to tailor certain items and let him do sweats the rest of the time.

Can you buy mens medium and hem the bottoms? Or do joggers. My 11 year old is 5’7 and I can’t find anything long and slim enough.

This is what I've been told to do yes...though I've never done tailoring myself. I was also wondering if anyone knew of any other brands/labels that might help.

It's easy to cut off the legs and hem them. Why wouldn't you do that?

My son's pants fall off him because he's too thin, despite a weight-gain diet. There was a point in time I needed to have all of them taken in. Now he makes do with a belt, but some things still need to be taken in.

My son is also 11, 5’-7” and 140lbs. He is very muscular, carrying most of his weight in thick thighs and a bubble butt. I have finally found this weekend that old navy had both adult joggers and mens jeans that worked well for him.

I've tried that once but he hated the way it was baggy in the legs and I admit it wasn't a good look. And joggers work for him but they really accentuate his rear, like noticeably so. Is he supposed to wear track pants until he's fully grown?

I haven't tried Old Navy but I will now, thanks.

You can buy Taylor and tape from Joannes fabrics. No needle and thread needed. Just an iron in the tape.

I apologize if I offend you, OP, but has his pediatrician said he needed to lose weight? The upside is that you'll find clothes more easily.

How many pairs of pants are you really needing to be hemmed? He’s in elementary school. Can’t he just wear what’s comfortable for him to school and have 2 pairs of hemmed pants for events where he shouldn’t wear sweats?

He’ll probably hit a growth spurt this year so I understand not wanting to have 5+ pairs hemmed.

Ok but PPs son is 7 inches taller than yours, right?

Weirdly with his body the slim jeans or tapered joggers were the hits. I know it is hard to dress this body type so good luck!

That's right, he's shorter. Still worth a try, or maybe no?

That's fine. Doctor has said he's slightly over healthy range at 105lbs but any weight loss won't necessarily have a huge affect on his body makeup now. I don't think we can spot target weight loss in glutes or thighs. It's just that all the fat went straight to his butt.
