Will still have trapped at 9-1…so dumb

Since all states cutoffs aren’t the same, you are going to have trapped regardless of what you choose. If 8/1 was selected then all the August kids in states with a 9/1 school cutoff would not be playing with their school year. My guess is 9/1 caused the least amount of trapped players nationwide based on the preponderance of states with a 9/1 school cutoff.

With an 8/1 cutoff, the younger August kids are misaligned, not trapped. And they have the option of playing up with their grade or playing the grade below and being the oldest on the team. They have choices.

With the 9/1 cutoff, the older August kids are actually trapped with the grade above their grade and can’t play down unless some sort of waiver system gets rolled out.

Liked the idea of 9/1 to 7/31 with August birthdays playing with the grade that they are actually in (between the 2 grades at issue).

Self sanctioned. They are a sanctioning body…read like 10 comments earlier.

Good question. Anybody has the answer?

I was at the meeting. MLS NEXT will be SY, only MLS academy and National Team will be BY.

MLSN and the MLS Academies are in the same league genius…you sure you’re not just blowing smoke?

“Hello from Atlanta, Georgia, and the U.S. Soccer Annual General Meeting where an announcement was just made that US Youth Soccer, AYSO, and US Club Soccer has decided they will collectively move to a September 1 seasonal year registration period beginning in the 2026 registration period. While there is no requirement to move to this registration date on the part of members, the collective announcement is a sign of alignment and collaboration that is often missing in our fractured youth eco-system.”

An email just received from Soccer Parenting.

What does it mean that “there is no requirement to move to this registration date on the part of members”? Members don’t need to comply until Fall 2026, or do members never have to comply?

That USSF is not making them change from BY to SY, they are electing an option given by USSF.

Maybe MLS Next Tier 1 remains BY, and the new Tier 2 goes SY?

If that is the official decision on this whole thing (9/1 Fall 26) 25/26 is going to be the most toxic soccer environment to date. Should have ripped the band aid off and gone with Fall 25 to start this.

Oh, we’ll get there. Just wait until MLSN/GA are confirmed BY.

And we have 60+/- days to see league plans.

Have either of the leagues listed actually come out and say anything? Not that it’s not happening, but the only one “reporting” on it are a mom and dads soccer page and twitter account. Seems like if the cats out of the bag they can at least give some details.
