I thought they were going to put out a website with direction from US Soccer after that I assume leagues will follow?

You thought right. Didn’t mean it was going to be instantaneous.

Right ... If not change until 26/27, what's the rush?

U.S. Soccer did put up this web page: https://www.ussoccer.com/ecosystem-review/player-registration which says mostly what the statement in December said but does also say that that is where all the new information will get posted. So if you want something to obsessively refresh there you go.

Says 60 days, so I guess we get to keep speculating here until maybe May 1? In the meantime, for the folks in the back who hold out hope for this season, this was in bold there (still):

"Starting in the Fall of 2026, members and leagues will have reasonable flexibility to choose the best registration option for their participants. There is no registration change for the 2025-2026 season."

although right below it repeats that sentiment but says "should" ....

The FAQ can't come soon enough.

I believe that is the original page. They stated there would be a website/ page with all updates and information as to how clubs move forward and what leagues are doing what option.

I thought it was the original page too but it isn’t. It links to the original page, and down at the bottom it explains that will be the website where they will put all the updates etc.

Will still have trapped at 9-1…so dumb

Since all states cutoffs aren’t the same, you are going to have trapped regardless of what you choose. If 8/1 was selected then all the August kids in states with a 9/1 school cutoff would not be playing with their school year. My guess is 9/1 caused the least amount of trapped players nationwide based on the preponderance of states with a 9/1 school cutoff.

“Hello from Atlanta, Georgia, and the U.S. Soccer Annual General Meeting where an announcement was just made that US Youth Soccer, AYSO, and US Club Soccer has decided they will collectively move to a September 1 seasonal year registration period beginning in the 2026 registration period. While there is no requirement to move to this registration date on the part of members, the collective announcement is a sign of alignment and collaboration that is often missing in our fractured youth eco-system.”

What does it mean that “there is no requirement to move to this registration date on the part of members”? Members don’t need to comply until Fall 2026, or do members never have to comply?

then for the 2026/2027 season she will still play U18/19. but if she is Aug birthdate that means she will get a third year in U18/U19 for the 2027/2028 season?

am I reading this correctly?

Your daughter will be in college for the 2027/2028 season.

What will happen to the held back kids when they are seniors? Will they allow play downs then? Once SY gets going all the 8/1 kids will be with the year above. Will 8/1 kids play down senior year? I would assume yes, but wonder if leagues will have limits.

thank you. this is what I was referencing. based on how it is going to be setup my daughter daughter will still be able to play a year at U19 after high school because she is a Aug birthdate.

With an 8/1 cutoff, the younger August kids are misaligned, not trapped. And they have the option of playing up with their grade or playing the grade below and being the oldest on the team. They have choices.

With the 9/1 cutoff, the older August kids are actually trapped with the grade above their grade and can’t play down unless some sort of waiver system gets rolled out.

Dont bother, the 9/1 acolytes are either intellectually dishonest or not smart enough to realize this. They would rather leave 14 states August birthday with no options vs 36 states August birthday the option of playing up and being youngest with grade or oldest with grade below.

Until the leagues actually say something, nothing is official.
