Anyone heard any reports about this? I head the MCI Center was going to be torn down and the Wizards would move to an arena down by the Navy Yard. Is this true??? |
I haven't heard anything about that and I doubt that it is true. However, the building's name is "Capital One Arena". It hasn't been the MCI Center since 2006.
|
I thought it was called the Verizon Center. Does MCI still exist as a company? |
MCi Center until 2006, Verizon Center until 2017, now Capital One. MCI doesn't exist anymore. |
I’m still stuck on Verizon Center myself. I think the building is owned by the Lerner’s. I cannot see them giving it up unless the alternative was extremely lucrative. So it doesn’t seem plausible at the moment. |
Monumental Sports and Entertainment owns the Capital One Arena.
The NHL season is about to start. I don't know what "MCI Center" refers to as far as 2022 buildings go, but the building where the Wizards and Capitals play isn't being torn down. |
Where would they even build at Navy Yard???? |
I still refer to the indoor arena as the cap center and the outdoor stadium as RFK. It’s a good thing most people I know also grew up here and we know what we’re referring to. |
What indoor arena? The cap center in PG county that was torn down and replaced by a mall? |
Honestly a Navy Yard arena would be kind of nice. |
I miss seeing the horse show at the MCI Center. |
Like Nationals Park??? |
Yep. Whatever the indoor venue is I still call it the cap center including the one that is now located in DC |
It’s so sad to see what’s become of this area since the pandemic. I work nearby and often feel uncomfortable walking just a few blocks outside my office. Saw someone smoking crack for the first time in my life last month in our back alley. If MCI/Verizon/Cap Arena were to leave it will mean the death of this neighborhood. |
MCI Center. Thanks for the blast from the past ![]() |
