At a large pro-Palestinian student and faculty protest at Columbia University in New York City on Friday, two Zionists sprayed students with something resembling a chemical weapon called “Skunk.” Both individuals, who were wearing fake keffiyehs, have been identified as Columbia General Studies students and former Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers.

The attack took place during an event—“Hands off Yemen and Gaza! No more tuition for the war machine”—that was organized by the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) chapters at Columbia University outside the Low Library. Despite freezing temperatures and a systematic campaign of intimidation targeting opponents of the state policy of genocide in Gaza, the protest drew around 300 participants. ..

.. A Columbia student present at the protest told the World Socialist Web Site, “The people who did this were Columbia students who served in the IDF. This was premeditated and done with the aim to hurt students. Columbia needs to take immediate action. This behavior is unacceptable on a college campus.”

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2024/01/22/lfsy-j22.html

Truth comes out. These “students” or really IDF thugs need their identity and address release to the public. Hopefully Columbia will expel these thugs and band anyone who is involved with the IDF. These people are terrorists. Could you imagine what would have happened if Palestinians had did this?

Give me a break. There is SO much dubious info in this article - starting with the site itself, "World Socialist Web Site" - a far left tankie propaganda rag.

And then it says PROTESTERS WERE ATTACKED!!!!1!!! - ehh sounds like someone used skunk spray, so what. The protesters in Lafayette Square suffered far worse treatment when Trump wanted to have his bible photo op.
And then it claims it was done by "two former IDF soldiers" - ehh unnamed suspects, and with no source of this alleged info... and given that all Israelis are, unless specifically exempted, are required to serve that means most adult Israelis are "former IDF soldiers" making that label pretty meaningless in context even if it turned out to be true.
And then it says "wearing fake keffiyehs" - uhhhhwhat? There's no such thing as a "fake keffiyeh" - a keffiyeh is a keffiyeh, they are cheap and readily available and anyone can buy and wear one..
... and so on... That article is a total joke.

The attack cannot be trivialized. If you don't like WSWS, there are plenty of other sources that report the same information. The "fake keffiyehs" means the IDF students slyly used a disguise to get close to the targeted students. "Skunk" doesn't just smell bad; it is a chemical weapon that can make people sick. Several students had to go to the hospital, and some complained of long-lasting effects. Obviously, violence of this sort is unacceptable, and the aggressors need to be disciplined. Two of the culprits have been identified as former IDF soldiers who are taking General Studies classes.

Sorry, but that didn't substantively change anything relative to my prior rebuttal of the WSWS article. Don't bother trying again.

So you'd be perfectly happy if former Palestinian militants wearing yarmulkes sprayed you with a chemical weapon that sent you to the hospital with vomiting, skin rashes, temporary blindness, a terrible headache, and difficulty breathing? You'd be a good sport about the whole thing and deny being attacked? You'd grin and bear it because protestors were treated worse at Lafayette Square? There wouldn't be a squeak out of you about antisemitic violence? OK. Would you mind if I sprayed you with skunk to see how this works out? Thanks. It'll be an interesting experiment.

The article
- provides no concrete proof of who the people involved were, much less that they were "former IDF soldiers" or that they had "disguised themselves with fake keffiyehs"
- provides no concrete proof of the events as claimed
- provides no concrete proof of the alleged chemical weapon or its impacts

And again, the source is extremely questionable.

So your entire crap conclusion about "so you'd be perfectly happy if..." is not even on sound footing to begin with.

You trivialized this as a non-attack, so it's fair to ask if you'd be perfectly happy to be a victim of the same thing. You can't weasel out of that one.

Two of the culprits have been identified and banned from campus. At least one (in an orange jacket) was caught on video wearing a keffiyeh that allowed him to get close to his victims. They have been identified by numerous other students as former IDF soldiers. You can't pretend this didn't happen. https://www.palestine-studies.org/en/node/1655130

You repeatedly trivialized thousands of Hamas rockets, each of which is capable of killing dozens, as a non-attack so it seems to me you don't really have much of a position from which to argue this.

I learned yesterday that the inspection points run by Israel (required of trucks carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza) are closed on Friday afternoons and Saturday.

wtf??!!

I realize that many Israelis are Jewish, but you don't close an operation that people's lives depend on 1.5 days a week. Hospitals and fire departments in civilized countries run 24/7.

Another example of how more could be done to safe civilians in Gaza, if that was actually a priority.

(I learned this fact from a UN rep, but it is documented in this article:

Sure. Yes. Bring them home. But why is this your response to a WP article on Gazans missing? Can’t you write “I feel for the missing Palestinians. That’s horrible. I also hope the hostages can be home soon too”?

Your post makes it sound like the only lives you value are Israelis. I guess that is truly the case but I wish more for humanity. I’m

Massacre’: Israel forces attack crowds waiting for aid in Gaza, killing 21
Palestinian officials call latest assault ‘premeditated’ as people seeking humanitarian supplies increasingly targeted.

At least 21 Palestinians have been killed after Israeli forces opened fire on thousands of people waiting for aid in Gaza City in the same area that was targeted hours earlier, government officials said.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza described the late Thursday attack as a “new, premeditated massacre” and said more than 150 people were wounded.

Witnesses told Al Jazeera that Israeli forces had used helicopters, tanks and drones to target thousands of people waiting on food trucks.

It was the latest in a string of assaults on people desperately in need of food and other essential supplies as Israel continues to obstruct and severely control the entry of aid into the enclave.

Israel needs to be pay for these crimes.

In addition to Israel's violations of International law ( the illegal settlement expansions, torture of Palestinians in custody( including Medical Doctors), use of starvation as a weapon of war,

The US Senate Intelligence Committee owes a duty to the American people to summon, hold hearings and fully bring to the attention of all Tax paying Americans as well as families of 9/11 victims, the role Israel might have played in obstructing the sharing of critical Sudanese Intel on OBL both prior to the 1998 US Embassy bombings in Kenya and 9/11.

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2002/01/osama200201

The Mukhabarat chief tried for 4 years from 1997- 2001 to pass on critical intel on Bin Laden's connections and plans but US Dept of State ( Albright ) repeatedly obstructed the FBI's going to Sudan to examine the Mukhabarat Intel files on OBL- when there was still time to prevent 9/11.

It must be publicly aired that the source of the false Intel telling US Dept of State, to disregard Sudan's Intel , is the one country that would benefit from the American response to repeated attacks against it ( 1998 Embassies, the Cole and finally 9/11) - what one country wants the US to fight it's enemies for it : Israel .

What one country would US Dept of State and CIA have a blind eye to the motives of : Israel.

Not our Ally, imho- but lets open all the files referenced in this Vanity Fair Article, in addition to why Sandy Berger stole the primary source records from the National Archives.

Public Hearings on faulty Intel on Sudan deliberately passed to US prior to 9/11 and whether that false Intel was deliberately seeded by Israel so that we would eventually declare war on all of their perceived enemies

The brutality of the Jews towards the Palestinian children is like few things I’ve witnessed in my lifetime. I don’t want Jews ever demanding lessons in our public schools on the Jewish Holocaust again until Israel accepts full responsibility for the genocide it has committed in Gaza. What a bunch of despicable, pathetic child killers.

Nope. The U.S. government doesn't have to do any of this, and will not.

Here we go again with the Chosen People guy. The “what do you want us to do about it?” guy. The “just because you want something doesn’t mean the U.S. has to change for you” guy. The promised land guy. The “IDF are the heroes of Gaza because their humanitarian mission is saving them from Hamas” guy.

And you are a guy.

World is made up of guys (and gals)

Groundbreaking revelation.

All these guys and girls have thoughts and ruminations.

You have a lot of thoughts! Are yours the only ones that matter? Nope. They actually may be of no importance, or even wrong.

I think this thread is stating to die out. At this point, everything that people wanted to say has been said and then some.

We are all just waiting for the ceasefire to finally come to fruition if it even comes .

This, plus to me the pro Israel posters who continue to stand with Israel’s action are just not people you can have a rational exchange of relevant ideas with. No, I am not a Russian troll. I just am pretty sickened that they cannot even acknowledge that damage Israel has caused and all they are to discuss is the harm they’ve suffered. Plus, they can’t even seem to recognize and express sorrow for that harm that Israel has caused and is still causing.

100k dead and missing Palestinians way out weigh the harm on their side (which is horrible too, I’m not excising Hamas)

You will remain frustrated if you expect anyone to compromise after a terrorist attack. Actions have consequences. Post-terrorism isn't a time for negotiation--if that were the case everyone would terrorize to achieve their goals.

Stay mad.
