They’re under usys. No way they’re not switching to SY right ?

Why do people think MLS Next is under USYS, it’s definitely not. This kind of rumor could only emerge in the lunacy of this thread.

What is under USYS?

Most of rec soccer and classic via the state associations. Also E64, USYS-NL, and ODP.

But MLSN is sanctioned under MLS. They’re at the big boys table.

Will still have trapped at 9-1…so dumb

💯 Only path now is to advocate for these kids through actionable steps. My recommendation - reach out repeatedly by email to leadership of all these orgs - US Club Soccer, ECNL, USYS, AYSO - and push for a solution for the August kids. One benefit of the long transition to fall 2026 rollout is there is time for them to account for this oversight if they get feedback that there is a sizable push for it.

That was tried in 2016. Didn’t work. The ship has sailed, brother.

I hear that, but this is a different ballgame. The move to birth year divided up the grades into two groups (7 months of one grade and 5 of another). Sure it also impacted where kids fall on the older to younger range of the registration year, as happens with any 12-month range. But it didn’t strand one single month of kids in a given grade alone on an island.

GA up until this year was sanctioned under USSSA. GA is now a sanctioning body, so they get to sit at the same table as MLS, NWSL, USCS, USYS, and AYSO.

MLSN is under MLS.

ECNL is under USCS.

USYS and AYSO are largely rec - one is “public” and one is sort of “private” as USYS mostly sponsors states, and local soccer, AYSO
has their own pyramid and leagues. It’s like an alternative to local rec and in theory “travel-lite” at the older ages.

Different ballgame?

It’s basically the same ballgame…just depends on the league. Some leagues it’s <2015 ballgame, other leagues it’s >2016 ballgame.

Pick your pathway, pick your poison.

No, pre-2017 the SY cutoff was 8/1 so it captured the August birthdays. It didn’t strand them alone with the wrong grade.

Pre-2017 the club landscape was a lot less serious, and the NCAA landscape was a lot more stable.

Grade year matters for soccer players that don’t matter.

Plus, this is a chaos being created that will yield another change. Don’t be surprised if in 2030 USSF comes back out and mandates NLs to be BY and any RL-to-local to be SY.

Or in 26/27 everyone is under SY registration except for national teams and MLS Academy teams.

ECNL is USCS, so SY. GA ? MLS ?

This is more likely

Can someone tell me what this means for a child with a September birthday who is in a school district with a 9/30 cutoff and who was not held back?

I know that technically it means that child would be playing with the grade year below him or her (since the soccer cutoff is 9/1). But what are the impacts that a parent needs to consider?

What about the new MLS Next expansion clubs? It says they are under NAL. So are they separate from MLS N which is just under MLS? Think they will be BY or SY?
