DC Public and Public Charter Schools
| DCPS school and everyone still masking despite the mandate being dropped. This is so disheartening. I really worry about the negative effects of not seeing faces for my young kids learning to read. I’m seriously considering moving to Virginia because of this, which sounds crazy I know. But if people aren’t a unmasking when vaccines are available and cases are low in community when will they? |

What school is this?
my kid is at Deal and says that there are almost no masks. One out of her 7 teachers masks and really no kids at all. my older two are in private schools in DC and there are zero masks worn by anyone. |
| None of my kid's teachers are masking. |
(1) Cases are not low, dummy. (2) Do we really need two threads on this every day? |
What age and school, OP? Zero kids masking in my kids' DCPS classes and very few teachers. |
DC's community level is low: https://coronavirus.dc.gov/key-metrics Honestly you should be flagged for misinformation. |
If your biggest problem is that people are *voluntarily* masking, you have never faced actual hardship. Your kid doesn't have to wear a mask if they don't want to. Remember how people were shrieking that all the vulnerable people needed to protect themselves because it was selfish to expect anyone else to give a crap about their health or make the slightest effort to help reduce the spread of a disease that's still killing around 500 Americans a day? And now you're mad that they are doing it? Get over your sad self. D Also, do your kids really not see anyone's faces? Why do you mask when you're at home with them? Why don't you ever take them outside, so they could see unmasked faces? Why don't you read to them? |
FYI, the CDC's "community levels" are about hospital admissions, not case counts. They stopped making transmission levels the main public metric, mostly to make the map look green instead of red, but those levels continue to be High or Substantial in nearly all of the country: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view?list_select_state=all_states&list_select_county=all_counties&data-type=Risk. DC is currently experiencing Substantial transmission levels (most recent is 85 per 100,000 residents, although I assume it's higher because many tests aren't being reported to public health authorities anymore). |
Look at DC's case levels, which are also low. 85/100,000 is characterized as low. Seriously, you are just making stuff up. |
Read the page I linked. The Community Levels treat that level as Low (in combination with the hospitalization factors). But the transmission map, which is bright red, categorizes 85/100,000 cases as Substantial transmission. Not making stuff up; that's the CDC's own web site. |
| It has ended. No one masking in va. |
| The idea that kids need to someone face to learn to read seems speculative at best. AAP just came out and said there's no evidence masks inhibit learning to speak and there I would at least be willing to consider the idea, but kids need to look at books not mouths when learning to read. |
| What do you want? A mask ban in schools? That’s not gonna happen. You are going to have to deal with other peoples choices. |
Just noting that you have changed the goalpost in the course of a few minutes. You originally said "Cases are not low, dummy." You are shown evidence that cases are characterized as low. You then move to transmission. |
Are you lost? |
