When will the masking end?

They're not sticking their heads in the sand. They're following the health guidance. DC is the one not following the guidance. Coronavirus is never going to be "over." It will be with us forever. Fortunately, it's not that big of deal anymore if you get it so people can get on with their lives.

I don’t really get the “it will be with us forever” as a reason never to mask.

When salmonella started showing up in eggs (at much lower rates than covid) people stopped eating raw cookie dough (no, not everyone but no one says, oh salmonella will be here forever so go back to eating raw cookie dough).

No one says, oh colds will be here forever, so why do you insist on washing your hands so much?

I guess if you really think covid is just a cold and you think wearing a mask is hugely inconvenient then it might make sense but there’s plenty of people who would disagree on either point.

Yeah, I mean, I've had the flu a few times and pneumonia once, and now that it's been a few years since I had any respiratory illnesses, I might just keep wearing a mask in large crowded indoor spaces forever. You don't want to? Fine, good for you. Doesn't seem like it's a huge problem for you if I do.

A lot of the voracious anti-mask folks on DCUM went from "Why can't it be my choice" to "you offend me by choosing to still mask" in a heartbeat. Same folks who went from "F*** your feelings" to "You hurt my feelings by calling me a fascist".

I don't mask. Spouse does on airplanes and other closed in spaces. Our kids has the choice and sometimes chooses to an sometimes chooses not to. Deal with it.

None of that is happening.

So much of that is happening everywhere. The anti mask argument was "my body, my choice" all along. Now they are so upset and offended by others who make the choice to mask. I mean, look at the start of this post.

My body, my choice goes both ways. You have your choice to make and so does every other person. Please respect those that choose to mask to protect themselves and their families.

You said "on DCUM" not "everywhere". Plus you are conflating a bunch of statements and groups of people to create a strawman.

I think OP has understandable questions about DC's penchant for masking even when no where else is, and particularly its need to mask at schools and what that means for younger kids' education and development. OP certainly isn't going on about fascists or "f**k your feelings".

OP’s question is not going to make people do what they don’t want to do. If OP is not happy about the situation at her school, then she can leave and send her kids somewhere else. What is there is debate or know? Serious question?

So many words...if only you understood what they meant. (You used "straw man" and "conflate" incorrectly.) OP asked a question. What followed what some oddly aggressive anger at people who choose to wear masks. No one accused OP of going on about fascists or "f*** your feelings". The point was the hypocrisy of people who whined about not having a choice and now lambaste those who choose to wear masks. F*** your feelings was an example.

I'm guessing if you couldn't understand the analog that perhaps, and I'm just spit balling here, you are the analog example?

Oh jeez you don’t do words good. Why did you bring up fascists and reminders of trumpers and their “f**k your feelings” tee shirts in relation to OP, who didn’t say anything about forcing people to unmask? Bc you want to reduce people to political categories so you can ignore and mock them.

You can’t see nuance.

That's now been explained to you 3x. I'll try again. It was a metaphor! The eff your feelings people were all about painting libs as soft and fragile, until people said mean things about them. Then they were all "you hurt my feelings". The two are incongruous. Similarly, so many people (you included) were all about personal choice and "don't force me to wear masks" but now see to be all in on vilifying people who still choose to wear masks. Incongruous. See?

P.S. The "reducing people to categories" is a rhetorical device used to neutralize when people call you out for being what you are. Only people dumb enough to believe Tucker aren't fooled. It's a weak play.

We ditch masks a while ago. But I don’t have any problems with people who choose to do so. So what? Who cares?

It is true that people are hypocrites who are now slamming people who mask. Masks were mandatory in schools before and people got mad crying freedom of choice. Now that you got that, you are putting down other peoples choices.

I don't think this thread was originally about people who choose to mask, it is about the 3 charters that still force children to mask.

No this thread was about OP wondering why people are still masking at her mask optional school. It has become so off topic. The subject you are talking about is a different thread.

Correct, OP is at a DCPS mask optional school and sounds like majority of people are choosing to continue masking.

This. I’m not interested in my kid masking but other people may make different choices. What is the big deal? It’s a personal choice.

I want a culture of people who follow the science and recognize that indefinite masking has real harms. I want it to be normal for my kids to see faces of their teacher and peers. I always scoffed at moving to Virginia but I think I need to call a RE agent.

Our kid usually doesn't wear a mask in school, but this week, she did, because my spouse had covid (kid was testing negative and had no symptoms). Is your argument that it would have been better for your kids, if they were her peers, to see her face unmasked?

I honestly would be fine with your daughter being unmasked. That’s not really the point Of this thread though. All things being equal my local elementary is still largely choosing to mask and yes I worry about the developmental affect on my kids of not regularly seeing faces.
