For years, I’ve worked out at a gym near my house in the evenings, and I just showered at home. Due to various family and professional schedule changes, I’m soon going to work out in early mornings at a gym near my work (not near home). So I’ll have to shower, change, etc at the gym. Never had to do this before. I’d love any tips on specific items/practices that make this go more smoothly. |
It’s not rocket science. Bring toiletries to keep at the gym. Work out, shower, go. |
Pack the night before, one less hurdle for the morning |
Go to a gym that provides towels and shampoo/soap if possible. Makes things so much simpler. |
If you can rent a locker, do so and keep your basic toiletries there. |
As a veteran of going from gym to work I agree with this 100%. Primary reason is that it is easy to forget something simple like a belt or socks when you're rushing around in the morning . I'd also recommend buying some small laundry bags or using store plastic bags to separate your used gym clothes and wet towel. I'm a guy so I don't have makeup or a hairdryer to think about, but I do have to make sure I always have toiletries like a razor to shave with, shaving cream, extra bar of soap, etc. It's all the little things that if forgotten make you have to go back home. |
This. For a year I went to a gym that only offered showers but no towels or anything else and didn’t even have lockeds. Planning was a pain. I now spend $20 more per month for a gym that has plush towels, fully stocked toiletries, and reserved lockers. It makes such a difference and is totally worth it. |
I am a member at Equinox gym and the place has everything I need. I just pack my work clothes with me that night before and that's it. Everything else is provided by Equinox gym. |
If you wear makeup get a full second set for the gym bag. Throw a couple extra undies and a bra in a ziplock bag to leave in there in case you forget. If no toiletries provided by gym, have a bag with those as well. Then pack clothes and shoes the night before. |
Go after work |
I did this for years at a gym that did not have permanent locker storage. I kept a gym bag packed all the time and just changed out clothes each night.
Pack a small toiletries bag with your toiletries and makeup. Have doubles so that bag never leaves your gym bag. Leave as many shoes as possible at your office. Then pack a full outfit - underwear, bra, clothes, accessories - all in one ziplock bag. That way everything is together, nothing gets lost, and nothing gets wet, etc. Try to plan on super easy outfits that require few pieces and don't wrinkle. |
Don't plan on going every day.
And pack your "easiest" outfits on those days ... nothing that wrinkles! As my mom used to say, "dress yourself from head to as you're packing." Think about your jewelry, a belt, etc. |
No one gets a personal locker at the gym. What do you mean Keep toiletries at the gym. Not possible. |
lots of gyms offer this for an extra fee. it makes life much easier |
Perhaps at your gym. At mine, it was 100% possible and done by many. |
