I would say in this case, yes.
She has done her research. She studied his past rulings. She met with him for over 2 hours. She talked to him, read all the background investigations, and actually got to know as much about him as possible.

I may be wrong, but I bet Justice Stevens has never met Judge Kavanaugh. He may be aware of his rulings, but I doubt he knows as much about him as Collins does. Stevens was basing his opinion on one incident. One in which Kavanaugh was passionately defending his reputation, his family, his livelihood, and his integrity. I think Collins was considering the man - all aspects of him.

You know, past performance doesn't guarantee future results.
K shows that he is a partisan. How good he will be separating his political views from his judicial opinions is yet to be seen.
Time will tell

Hopefully, he will be as skilled as RBG in separating his political views from his judicial opinions.

He already went on his rant about Clinton. Kavanaugh is a piece of sh*t.

"What goes around comes around" indeed.

But there is no law requiring that he recuse himself from any case before the Supreme Court. Recusal is voluntary.

Do you think Brett will recuse himself when the ACLU brings a case before the Supreme Court? He'll be licking his chops at his chance to get back at those "liberals" who funded the conspiracy against him.

Be very afraid, Democrats.

You are illustrating exactly why Kavanaugh should not have been confirmable. The legitimacy of the Supreme Court dies with Kavanaugh, and thus, what is left of our republic.

Whatever rises in its ashes will be in the model of Putin's Russia with the Trump family at the helm, as some sort of oligarchal christian theoracy.

So much winning.

Recuse? Hahaha!! He'll follow the Kagan (see ACA) and RBG models (see all things Trump) and find every reason to not recuse. Thank you Kagan for non-recusals, Biden (Rule) for Justice Gorsuch, but most of all Harry Reid for the next 30-40 years of sane jurisprudence.

Kagan recused herself in hundreds of cases - I'd be happy if Bart followed her example

Oh, homeboy will be watched closely to ensure that he does.

I just pledged $50 to her future opponent, assuming she runs again. It was cathartic. The total is currently above $2.2 mil, aiming for $4 mil.

You’re trying to buy a political seat of a senator? I don’t know what to say.

Why double standard? You give a pass to Manchin - a Democrat - in the name of wanting to retain his seat (though he already has a substantial lead) and want Collins - a Republican - to vote against her party's nominee and face peril in her reelection. You are all jokers. I was a registered Democrat before who now is a registered Independent.

As a lifetime unaffiliated voter, I can assure you that the blinders have always existed, on both sides.

Because women don’t like women who aren’t supportive of women. Manchin is male and therefore stupid.

Many women don't like women who always support women no matter what. Personally, I try to judge each person on his or her merits and actions.

Susan Collins on the Senate Floor:

Since the hearing I have listened to many survivors of sexual assault. Many were total strangers who told me their heart-wrenching stories for the first time in their lives. Some were friends that I had known for decades, yet with the exception of one woman who had confided in me years ago, I had no idea that they had been the victims of sexual attacks. I am grateful for their courage and their willingness to come forward, and I hope that in heightening public awareness, they have also lightened the burden that they have been quietly bearing for so many years.

To them I pledge to do all that I can to ensure that their daughters and granddaughters never share their experiences.

Pretty sure your vote today ensures that. No woman will be coming forward anytime soon -- because even you won't believe them.

Yes, with my $50 I am trying to “buy a political seat of a senator.” People are allowed to donate money to whom they want. Were you not aware of how it works? You’ll be amazed to know then, that you can donate your own money to Collins, to “buy” her a senate seat.

2.3 mil now. It’ll pass 4 in no time.

Main is not a West Virginia
Collins is as far right as Main Senator can be, Manchin is a far left as WVa senator can be.
If Collins voted out - there will be someone independent instead
If Manchin voted out - that seat is going to be filled by right-wing nut job.

Anonymous wrote:Thanks (eyeroll) Collins for being the MamaBear shield the Republicans desperately needed, hiding poor wee little Brett under your skirt. What a farce! A man could not have done this. The chess move of using (yes, using) a woman is tactical but shameful all the same. I hope you are voted out.

Well said.

Collins will be voted out. Do you think the yahoos in Kentucky will vote McConnell out? They must be dumber than sh*t for voting for him in the first place. He's taking away their health care, keeping their wages low, wants to keep the poor from getting food stamps -- and these people are his constituents!!

That said, it was a BRILLIANT move of McConnell to use Collins for cover. Brilliant. He did not get where he is for nothing.

I am not sure Collins will be voted out. Maine is an independent, frugal place. I wonder if Collins’ eventual opponent will be perceived as beholden to outside money, and that the money is being wasted. The caretaker at my parents’ Summer house thinks Collins is fabulous. Her wife, a cheese maker, thinks the same. She is the only republican they say they vote for.

Collins has been consistently voted into office by Democrats that have crossed lines to
Vote specifically for HER because they thought she had their interests at heart. The Maine paper came out against Kavanaugh. She doesn’t have her constituents best interests at heart. She has McConnell’s. It’s very likely they’ll run a Trump Republican against her anyway in the primary.

“The Maine paper?” As if there is only one paper in Maine and it speaks for all residents? My brother lives on a tiny island way far north with only a couple hundred residents and there are towns and communities like that all over the state. Portland does not speak for him.

Okay, you are clearly misinterpreting her remarks. She is talking about the next generation not being victims of sexual assault, like their parents and grandparents.

I probably haven’t used the term Freudian slip since 1983, but I finally found an instance where it applies.

+1

She was just setting herself up with that quote.

Basically all girls and women today have been told by the most powerful people in the land, don't even bother coming forward with your stories of assault.
