With hundreds of countries and tens of thousands of companies as options for investing, some American colleges are choosing to stick with investing in a country charged with war crimes and whose credit rating is at junk level.

It is quite an irrational approach to both moral values and investing. Unless of course you care for neither….

I agree with you that there are many available choices.

Students can “divest” themselves from these universities by withdrawing. Then find an institution in alignment with their investing value.

Amazing that stupid 20 yr olds actually think they can call the shots here. You are so right - they should go enroll at Portland State or Evergreen State or any of the universities that allow the inmates to run the asylum.

No it should be parasitic, dual citizen, IDF soldiers who daylight as donors who call the shots. Try them for treason!

Biden might as well have told them, “Don’t.”

Or as we sauy in public schools, "Let's make a good choice."

And, “Use your indoor voices.”

Crickets. Maybe they’re finally embarrassed? Doubtful, but maybe.

Maybe they cut off WiFi from inside the barricaded building at Columbia

I said earlier today. Cut off the electricity and water supply in the building. The mob will come out eventually. I feel bad for the NYPD that is going to have to eventually go in and take them out by force. It’s not going to be pretty.

That’s a great idea. I hope the administration has the balls to do this.

The divestment demands are much more complicated than this and they are not asking to divest just from Israeli companies.

Here are some good articles:
https://www.npr.org/2024/04/26/1247561371/here-are-the-divestment-demands-that-student-protestors-are-making

https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/28/investing/stocks-lookahead-divestment-college-protests/index.html

The second article talks about the practical issues of trying to divest in a global economy.

It’s not complicated at all. These universities are divested from many countries. In fact, they divested from Russia at record speed.

They have not engaged with their community in ANY conversations regarding divestment nor entertained any options on what it might look like. They have never considered it as a possibility, in fact some have instituted a pledge of allegiance to Israel as a condition of hire. Who die they serve?

Just now the spokesperson for the mob inside Hamilton Hall announced in her press conference for the university to provide humanitarian aid to the mob.

Free Palestine and Free Pizza is the new slogan.

Any student of military warfare knows to cut off supply lines.

I love this picture so much.

I don't love that it's from Fox news but no way in hell that's a college student. A-hole paid protestors doing nothing but stirring up division.

At what point do these college students need to take some responsibility for the divisive people protesting alongside them?

On both the right and the left, this is a problem. And both sides are afraid to call out their more extreme members and prefer to just pretend that they aren't responsible.

The problem is that both sides are treated so differently (in particular by the media) on this issue.

Yes- Jan 6th rioters were treated like criminals and these protesters - calling for violence and intifada - are being treated with kid gloves likened to civil rights activists.

It’s truly mind-boggling to see the difference in treatment. These protesters are animals and should be treated as such. Masked rioters, breaking windows and barricading themselves inside buildings? Where’s the SWAT team?

And these thugs shouldn’t just be “suspended,” they should be expelled. With an arrest record.

Zero Jan 6 insurrectionists were arrested on Jan 6. They beat up police, destroyed the capitol, etc and were all allowed to just go home. On the other hand, lots of these students are getting arrested. So yes, there’s a big difference in treatment.

More than 450 of the January 6th protesters have gone to jail. Hopefully the same fate will befall the pro-Hamas students running riot at Columbia.

+1 and any non-American protesters should be deported.

People have rights you moron. You don't get to just ship off people who say and do things you don't like. That's the freedom you idiots never stop bleeting about. It cuts both ways.

DT.

FTR, it's not at all clear legally whether/when the US government can deport noncitizens for their speech.

See Reno vs. AAADC, Kleindienst, Galvan, etc.

So it's entirely possible that the government could seek to deport noncitizen students who participate in protests.

Judiciary just spoke out on this issue. If a student is on visa and it’s determined he’s engaging in supporting terrorism (Hamas is recognized as terror organization), then he can be immediately deported.

Related, but not quite the same issue.

Question is: can a nonresident be deported from the US solely for the content of their speech?

Answer is: maybe.

Would not be surprised if Trump tested this if he's elected.

In case you’ve been asleep, the mob is well beyond “speech”.

Obviously, any nonresident who takes illegal ACTION can be deported.

You're a few steps behind the interesting part.

No, that’s exactly what multiple posters are saying. The mob at Columbia has violated several criminal conduct codes in the past 24 hours. They don’t deserve to remain in our country.

Yes the pro Israel agitators have been emboldened by the support the university has given them. I hear loyalty oaths to Israel will be required by next semester.

DP. Here we have an example of a truly ignorant person, who will continue denying the aggressive and illegal tactics that the pro-Hamas crowd is taking. So pathetic.

Gives this reporter a raise:

"It seems like you're saying, 'We want to be revolutionaries, we want to take over this building, now would you please bring us some food.'"

Eventually someone will have a medical need and want to evacuate. Or, they will turn on each other as their resources run low.

Would make a great reality tv show.

Hmm... So even when the KKK protested.... History was on their side.

My suggestion would be not live your life with slogans.

And Westboro Baptist Church, Jan 6ers and anti choice protesters…. Is history really on their side?

Isn’t it interesting that the people breaking into the school buildings dress and those that broke into the Capitol on 6 Jan look and act the same?

Wonder if they will be bought off or if this will just make the Admin of NW look like the morons and morally feckless idiots they appear to be. If it works, basically now people can raise hell and get college paid for. Good grief.

Bribery to stop lawlessness - amazing lack of spine among these administrators.

Sure - the students being arrested will be released almost immediately. The J6 rioters may not have been arrested that day, but they certainly were eventually arrested and given jail sentences. You’re right - big difference.

So they are being treated differently based on your baseless speculation about whether they will be prosecuted.

They’d better be prosecuted. We’ll be watching.
