I'm a parent, I did my research, I voted for her.

Why was her profession hidden?

Why are you suddenly asking these "When did you stop kicking your dog" questions? I guess someone is suddenly worried that Rita Montoya might win.

She will win. Apple Ballot wants her. The question stands, why is her profession being hidden from voters?

Literally not hidden. She talks about it openly. It's even on her candidate web page:

"In my career, I developed:

[other items]; and

a U.S.-based, international, Black-owned cannabis and hemp company..."

You are the only one trying to make it seem like a cover-up.

It is not on her Apple Ballot flyer.

You mean this one?

How terrible that they don't put every single thing about this candidate on their limited-space flyers! Certainly, they did for the other candidates they decided to support:

https://www.mceanea.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/04/stewart.jpg

Seriously, what planet do you live on?

Zimmerman mentions her profession and employment in the flyer and Laura Stewart is unemployed so obviously wouldn’t/can’t mention her employment.

The mailer, just received, has two brief sentences for each candidate. The first indicates education-related aspects and the second indicates their aims.

If you're looking for them to spend more of those ~30 total words to say, "developed a U.S.-based, international, Black-owned cannabis and hemp company," (openly stated on her campaign website, and not very much an education-related aspect) instead of "a nonprofit advisor" (which is experience that would be related to BOE work), then I ask, again,

What planet do you live on?

What company? Name it. Anything she has been connected to is defunct.

Hope you got whatever answer there you sought in the other replies -- it seems like you knew any names already from your pronouncement.

But whatever the names of companies were is a bit of a red herring. This part of the thread was about countering the notion that there was any "hiding" of Montoya's medical cannibis advocacy going on -- the fact that it's plainly on her website and the ridiculousness of expecting MCEA to draw specific attention to that, in light of all the more on-topic items available, within the confines of their 30-word mailer highlight.

Nobody talks about students on this forum. It’s clearly all Union propaganda to not let any outsiders bring accountability to a corrupt BOE. We don’t need any more Lawyers on the BOE. Lynne Harris was a complete disappointment. She only cares about one demographic.

It's trying to rile up a base over a non-issue in the bluest of blue counties instead of taking serious positions on pressing issues.

Then you haven't been paying attention, because yes they actually are running for school board in Montgomery County, and yes it actually is a serious issue.

Scare mongering is alive and well in MoCo. MAGA isnt coming for your kids so calm down. Parents are tired of being lied to and seeing scandal after scandal come out of MCPS. Change is needed- accountability isn’t the rw boogeyman or MAGA dog whistle so chill out. Even if new people are elected, they’re going to have a big job ahead of them. They’ll have to work with the other BOE members as well as MCPS- both of whom seem loathe to any change or transparency.

Is MAGA coming for our kids in MCPS? No, IF the voters of Montgomery are paying attention and make sure to vote AGAINST the MAGA-aligned candidates.

For the MAGA-aligned candidates to lose, VOTERS HAVE TO VOTE AGAINST THEM. That's not scare-mongering, that's just how elections work.

Well, guess what? She didn't get MCEA's endorsement! So I guess you agree with MCEA on that.

The idea that we don't need any more lawyers on the BoE, though, that's bananas. I don't think I would vote for someone just because they are a lawyer, but being a lawyer does not disqualify you.

BS no Moms4Liberty should be voted for ever.

I've served on boards before. I found the best ones have a diversity of expertise -- in the boards I was on, a subject matter expert, then a tech expert, and a legal expert always worked well.

For MC BOE, not everyone needs to be a teacher; not everyone needs to have a student in MCPS (they would represent the many county residents who also don't have kids in MCPS); not everyone needs to have a certain view. What I've seen in this thread is that a lot of people care for example about security, so a candidate with expertise in that would be helpful for example. A member who is a lawyer; and another who is an expert on budget would also be useful.

You need a majority vote for something to pass in BOE, so one person can't change the path of the BOE anyway, but one person with expertise in an area the board lacks can be useful.

I'm not pushing any one candidate or another, just saying that the sky isn't necessarily falling just because one person with different views or expertise from the rest of the BOE gets elected. It's OK to have a non-MCPS parent on the BOE for example -- MCPS budget is about half of the entire county budget, so even non-parents would like to have a voice on how their taxpayer money is spent.

Most of the BoE members currently do not have a child in MCPS. So I think there's general agreement with your statement.

I do not think there's general agreement that it's ok to have someone on the BoE who currently has multiple school-aged children and who is deliberately choosing to keep all of them out of MCPS and who consistently attacks the very idea of a public school system.

This is what I said upthread. I know M4L is real but here in MoCo they are not a threat. I think DCUM gives them much more power and visibility than they have in MOCO IRL.

Judging from this thread they're out in force.

I never thought Donald Trump could get elected in this country, but here we are AGAIN. That taught me to pay attention, whether the threat to human rights is national or local.

And that is just an opinion which is not factual.
