I am a DP, I really hope it does. 10 years ago you could go to a game or concert at Capital One Arena (it was the Verizon Center!) and then walk around to a bar or restaurant, go to a happy hour, then to your car or Metro. Even at night. It wasn’t a huge “nightlife” area but it was lively and fun. And no one was openly dealing drugs on the street. Your car wouldn’t be stolen and you wouldn’t be carjacked. There were panhandlers and homeless but they were not mentally disturbed and aggressive as they are now. But if you go there now you know that’s now how it is anymore.

I agree that a central location in the city is the best for all the fans. But the entire DC government dropped the ball big time and it opened up an avenue for Youngkin and the VA state and local government to quietly step in and Youngkin to convince his friend to move the teams. So yeah. I really really hope this is a wake up call for the city too, but I’m not 100% certain it will be. Don’t know what it’ll take to return everything to the good old days of, like, 2008-2016.

You can still do those things. I even did them last night.

The DC Government didn't drop the ball. Read the Axios report. DC doesn't have 70 acres and 2 billion dollars to give to Leonsis to retain the teams. That is the proposal Virginia made. It has nothing to do with crime, which is just the cop out bogeyman (yes it is an issue but it isn't why the teams are moving) - this is a plain old money grab that two old friends conjured up at Virginia taxpayer expense.

Right. So knowing they were in such a weak negotiating position they should have agreed to a deal over a year ago instead of slow rolling it and playing footsy with the Commanders.

I live in old town and try to do all of my local errands on foot right near me, but I am still at PY at least 1-3 times weekly. No matter what time of day or night I go, it’s generally crowded and the traffic on route one right near there is a mess already. Weekends are chaos with all of the soccer fields full.

Actually, there are lots of real estate opportunities that were potentially available here. Former RFK site is an obvious one. Plenty of underutilized office buildings as well. Yes, some creativity would be required.

VRE is an under appreciated asset in the region that should be strongly considered as part of the plans. A PY stop and increased scheduling would bring in a lot of the Western Fairfax fanbase. VRE parking is easy, plentiful, and free.

Agree 100% Wasting time and money on the Commanders makes no sense for DC for economic and business reasons.

Actually, if this were to happen at PY, it will isolate Old Town even more. And who would buy year PY given the traffic jams at least 80 days a year. Not me. And I love Old Town.
