| Looking for a school with about 10 k student body; football and basketball teams; strong spirit; no more than 60k tuition; non-church affiliated; preferably within 8 hours of DMV. We are stuck. Thanks. |
| Dayton? |
| Curious about why you're stuck on 10k? (As you've found that's not a common size.) I personally like a smaller school, but I feel like once the school is bigger than 5 or 10k, the precise size is less relevant. I know that big schools have ways to make themselves feel smaller and more manageable (like honors colleges, etc.). |
If you find one like that, please let me know. It may not exist. My kid likes mid-sized schools, but the ones we've considered are under 10,000 undergrads (W&M has around 6,500, I believe, and yes I know it supposedly lacks school spirit). |
| Op here: my dd thinks Loyola Md is too small but Penn State is too big so she is looking at an in between number and 10k comes to mind. But maybe 7 or 12 is right too. |
| UVM? 11k students, and a little further though. |
| To hit all those criteria, you're looking at either Catholic (see the Dayton suggestion, above) or super-selective. Push to 20K (half the size of Penn State), and a number of options open up. |
No football and not much spirit. |
| There are only 2 Catholic colleges with Division 1 football: Notre Dame and Boston College. |
Dayton is Catholic. |
| Youngstown State may be a match |
Elon University is close to 7,000. |
|
Starting a bit smaller (5000) and going a bit larger (20,000):
Duke Lehigh Miami (Ohio) Northwestern Syracuse University of Dayton University of Delaware University of Pittsburgh Vanderbilt (10 hours) Wake Forest |
There are two categories if Division 1 football now--FBS and FCS. There are other Catholic colleges in FCS. |
| 15:39 here: reminded that Dayton is Catholic by above poster. Thanks! |
