I just found out our elementary school is having lunch outside again this year. Anyone know if this an APS decision or school by school? My kids hate it and we’re really looking forward to eating at a table again! |
I haven’t heard for our school but hope they continue it. Kids need way more time outside than they typically get in a school day. Having a choice would be nice but requires more staff…. |
It can actually be very convenient from a schedule perspective - lunch outside, then head to playground for recess. |
Which school? |
ASFS stopped outside lunch sometime late spring, theoretically because they didn't have enough staff coverage. I wish they would continue the option. |
Hate it?? Mine love it! Why would they want to be stuck at a table in the smelly cafeteria? |
School decision. Our school was given the choice and the principal (and parents) support keeping an outdoor lunch |
ATS parent here. I have no idea what ATS is doing but I love the idea of outdoor lunch (when the weather is nice of course!). I hate how kids are cooped up inside all day. |
My kid loved it too. After she’s done eating, she gets a few extra minutes of recess. The extra fresh air was excellent at least 80% of the time last year. It also taught her how to dress for the weather!
I very much home this is here to stay at our school. |
They don’t have tables? Our school added a bunch of tables last week. Maybe you mean cardinal? That looked awful. |
I think outdoor lunches are here to stay at a lot of schools. The kids get more recess and I am pretty sure it winds up taking less staff to momitor. |
+1 I hope it’s here to stay. Assuming the weather is decent, most kids love it. When I would eat lunch with my kids at school the cafeteria was so loud and chaotic. I love that the kids are getting fresh air. Cleanup is probably a lot easier too (though wrappers / trash can be an issue.) |
My school is going to continue outdoor lunch and I’m thrilled and so are my kids. To me that’s one of the silver linings of covid and hope they do this going forward as standard practice. |
My school said outdoor lunch saw less behavioral issues too. |
Your kids are in the minority OP. Most kids prefer outdoor lunch if the weather is decent. |
