Kia telluride mark up- worth the hype?

Anonymous
Dh is dead set on getting a telluride. The dealer wants a 15%+ markup on it. I think its egregiously overpriced and with the premium, in the realm of a luxury SUV. Am I miss something here? Is it on par with the Volvos and Audis? Tell me I’m missing something here.

Kias are decent knockaround vehicles. But if you’re buying one that priced comparable to a Volvo then it’s a rip off.

It is not as nice as a Volvo or Audi. No.

We have two and love them but the dealer was a friend so not only told us when one was coming in but gave us a deal on both. That was three years ago. Neither has had a single issue

Spent a week in one when visiting a family member out of state. They had the tippy top of the line version. It was totally fine but just did not feel at all luxurious to me, and for what they are charging these days I would not be happy.

No. It's a luxury SUV for lower class.

I’m not sure if you have actually priced Audi’s and Volvo’s lately (the 7 seater ones) but they are still more than the Kia, even after the markup.

At 15% markup, I would rather have a Lexus that is more reliable and so I don't have to deal with the Kia dealer. I have a Kia EV and love it, but I would not wish the KIA dealerships on my worst enemies. The dealers are used to making money by taking advantage of poor buyers.

Who thinks a Kia is even middle class? I am sorry but all I think of is the old Sportage or Sonata that used to catch fire and flip over. It was the go-to car for welfare or broke college people. Reputation is hard to overcome. Just because it cost a lot does not mean you should buy it. Btw, I am speaking with no experience of ever driving in or driving one, so just my opinion.

Yeah, and what’s the saying about opinions….

I have a fully loaded Telluride and I absolutely love it. I have posted about it here before. I could have gotten a more expensive SUV, I looked at the Audi e-tron($70k was just too much, I pay cash for my cars), previous car was a ML450 so didn’t repeat that because I wanted to stop paying for premium gas and the BMW was just a no. I test drove the Telluride on a whim and just fell in love.

However, I would not pay over MSRP. I did not. There are several dealers that will sell at MSRP if you are willing to wait and not buy off the lot. I purchased from Kia Dealership in Salisbury, MD, I did have to wait almost 6 months for it, but I got exactly what I wanted. I think Timbrook Kia and Winchester Kia are also selling at MSRP (they were last year).

The car isn’t selling out all over the country and winning awards left and right for nothing. I’m not saying it’s the same as luxury German vehicles, it’s definitely not. The car is a little redesigned for 2023, and honestly would probably not buy a 2023 because they discontinued the coolest thing about it (Amber daytime running lights and the Nightfall trim).

A Sonata is a Hyundai sedan. And your post is incredibly classist. Are you 60+? Who TF makes snide welfare comments in 2022?

+1. Technologies of South Korean companies are advanced and top notch.

Same company.

I think it’s a bad idea to pay over MSRP unless you’re so loaded it doesn’t matter.

Anyway the car market is showing signs of crashing and it will fall hard in the next month or so. All the signs are there.

The problem is that Lexus doesn't really have a Telluride competitor (3-row crossover SUV), and won't until they announce/release the TX at some point in (likely) 2023.
