Is Georgetown really that much better than BC?

Anonymous
Full disclosure, I went to GU and my child is applying to BC ED1.

The more I read about BC, the more I feel like it's on par with Georgetown - mainly because I feel Georgetown has declined over the last 25 years or so. Why is GU considered more prestigious?

Georgetown has an international reputation; BC doesn't. They're both excellent universities.

Georgetown is vastly better; the schools are not even in the same league.

Don't be silly. Georgetown's SFS is vastly superior to anything else at either place. Otherwise, though, they're roughly equivalent.

Georgetown for sure has a better brand. I don’t know about the quality of the education between the two.

"vastly"?

Yes, on a national and international basis, other than football, Georgetown has a better reputation.

Georgetown was founded by slave owners.

"Better reputation" (which I do agree with) doesn't make it a better school.

I am sure it's because you are no longer attending.

LOL. So what? Those days it was not uncommon to own slaves.

BC seems to have the more loyal and close knit alumni base

Yes. The current president, Jack DeGioia, has gone to great lengths to wrestle with the school's legacy. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/11/us/intent-on-a-reckoning-with-georgetowns-slavery-stained-past.html

Not to say there haven't been challenges, but GU is one of the few universities to examine their school history and propose steps to address.
